Fourth of July Happenings around the island

AVALON – Boaters looking to spend the July 4 weekend away from the mainland are welcome to cruise over to Avalon where several events are planned for the long weekend.

The Catalina Island Museum will celebrate the Fourth of July by bringing the upbeat sounds of Cajun and Zydeco to the island as part of its annual Fourth of July Music Festival at Casino Point on July 4.

“This event has quickly become a favorite among island visitors and residents alike,” said museum executive director Michael De Marsche. “The importance of live musical entertainment was established early in Avalon’s history, and the museum is proud to be a part of continuing this tradition.”

The Mudbugs Cajun and  Zydeco Band are known nationally for their electrifying mix of Cajun, Zydeco, Country, Swamp Pop, and Rockabilly tunes.

This year’s Fourth of July Music Festival will also feature the band, Something, and The group Fighting Chance.

Guests are invited to grab blankets and lawn chairs and find the best spot at Casino Point.

Doors will open at 3 p.m., live music begins at 4 p.m. and runs through 10 p.m. with a break for Avalon’s fireworks at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 for museum members and $10 for general admission. Call (310) 510-2414, visit the museum, or go to the events page at CatalinaMuseum.org to purchase tickets!
