Huntington Harbour Yacht Club celebrates 50th anniversary

HUNTINGTON HARBOUR – Members of Huntington Harbour Yacht Club recently installed its 50th Board of Directors and Flag Officers with Jr. Staff Commodore Phil Ventura handing over the club’s reins to Commodore Kimberley Harrison.

Harrison’s fellow Flag Officers include, Vice Commodore John Schmidt, Rear Commodore Dean Oliver and Fleet Captain John Abernatha.

The newly installed board looks forward to leading the club – that was built in 1977 – in its 50th year of operation.

“Steeped in tradition, this is more than just a yacht club,” Harrison said. “It is a home, a place to laugh and share stories, to explore the ocean and feel safe with family and friends.”

Located in Huntington Harbour, the yacht club has come a long way from its expansive club house to adding 85 new members from young families to retirees. Heavily active in the community, the club is open seven nights a week offering a full menu and happy hour specials.

“There are more events than can be described,” she said, “and we kicked off our 50th year in style with the Commodore’s Ball, a formal gala of magnificent proportions, and the introduction of our 50th burgee.”

Harrison added that “‘this is going to be an amazing year! We have a lot of great events planned to commemorate this milestone.”
