Newport Boat Show returns, May 14-17

NEWPORT BEACH — The 42nd annual Newport Boat Show — the show, presenting the largest collection of big yachts west of the Mississippi — will return to Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach May 14 to 17.

The Newport Boat Show is California’s premier big boat and yacht show, presenting more boats in the water than any other event in the West. At the 2015 event, show-goers will be able to step aboard and compare the unique features of more than 200 pleasureboats — including brand-new models, as well as ocean-tested brokerage yachts that come pre-loaded with sought-after amenities.

Located at Lido Marina Village, this year’s event will offer more than 400,000 square feet of floating dock exhibits and boardwalk displays, plus a huge selection of boating accessories, electronics, gear and services.

“We’re seeing the biggest increase in new models and production boat inventory coming to California than at any time during the past decade,” said show producer Duncan McIntosh. “Many, if not, most of these will be coming to the May show.”

The 2015 Newport Boat Show will feature the newest vessels to reach the Western United States.

Horizon V80

As the first Horizon V80 in the United States, the boat has been designed for the American market, specifically for West Coast boaters. Presented by Orange Coast Yachts, the Horizon V80 cockpit motoryacht features a four stateroom ensuite layout below deck, with a king master stateroom, queen VIP stateroom, and two twin guest staterooms.

Dining for eight is offered in three different locations — the main deck dining area, aft deck dinette, and a forward seating and dinette area. Designed to entertain family and friends, whether on board or cruising the open ocean, the V80 provides a total of five entertaining areas, including a sit-down bar and barbecue on the flybridge as well as seating and lounging area on the foredeck. Equipped with CAT C32A 1622HP engines, the new Horizon V80 reaches a top speed up to 25 knots and cruises at 20-21 knots.

Mag Bay 33-footer

Mag Bay Yachts might be the new kid on the block but it is certainly making some big waves in the industry. Founders Michael and Barrett Howarth worked closely with Michael Peters Yacht Design in Sarasota, Florida, to introduce a beautiful 33-foot center console combining the latest stepped hull technology with traditional yet striking lines.

Mag Bay 33’s official debut will be at the Stan Miller Yachts display at the Newport Beach Boat Show.

Michael Howarth, most well-known as the co-founder and vice president of Cabo Yachts, brings to the table nearly 48 years of experience in the marine industry. The Mag Bay 33’s lines can only be described as absolutely beautiful. The hull’s flared bow, tumblehome and striking transom set the boat apart and give it an unmistakable look. Gracefully rounded corners, a true toe kick, faired and finished off lockers, and abundant storage are just a few of the many standard features to be found within the boat’s gunnels. Options such as joystick steering, touch-screen electronics and color changing lights further complement the boat’s stunning looks.

With projected speeds in the mid to high 50’s with twin 300 horsepower outboards, the 33 will get you where you want to go in a hurry. 338 gallons of fuel, 40 gallons of fresh water and 13 gallons of waste will give you plenty of range for those long fishing trips.

Bavaria 420 Virtess Coupe

Another welcomed addition to the show is the Bavaria 420 Virtess Coupe, a luxurious 44-foot coupe that features a sun lounge area and abundant living space. This will be the first time a Bavaria yacht has been on the West Coast, making the vessel a must see event for every boat owner. With three staterooms, a skylight, two heads, a fully equipped galley, an entertainment center, and innovative movable furniture in the cockpit, the Bavaria 420 Virtess Coupe provides classic lines, modernity and the utmost level of comfort.

The Canadian Electric Boat Company will have two of its electric boats on display — the 16 foot Quietude 156 and the 22 foot Fantail 217. South Coast Yachts will be exhibiting six new Beneteaus and a Lagoon 450 catamaran.

Alexander Marine, as the new Pursuit dealer, will have three new Pursuits on display — a 26-, 28- and 36-footer — along with an Ocean Alexander 80. Cruising Yachts, Inc., in San Diego is bringing a new Jeanneau Velasco 37F powerboat, and JK3 Nautical Enterprises will showcase a new Sabre 48.

Bayport Yachts is scheduled to bring a host of new boats for boat show guests to admire. The lineup includes the Prestige 420 Fly, Prestige 450S, Prestige 500 Fly and Prestige 550 Fly; the 2015 Chaparral 310 Signature; and, the 2015 Chaparral 330 Signature – a brand new model for 2015.

Show-goers can come aboard vessels of all models and sizes to see the latest and greatest features and amenities that today’s top boat builders have to offer. Guests will also find a whole host of exhibitors both shoreside and in the water showcasing innovative products and services that make owning and operating a big boat more enjoyable.

Boating services will also be showcased at the annual show, including marine financing and insurance. Three standup paddleboard exhibitors will be on site — both on land and on the water — for guests to ask questions and observe the latest boards.

And don’t miss the cooking demonstration scheduled to take place at the on-the-water-Eggs Plus Pan exhibit.

The Newport Boat Show is produced by the Duncan McIntosh Co., publisher of Sea Magazine, Boating World, The Log Newspaper, FishRap and Editor & Publisher, and producer of the Lido Boat Show – scheduled for Sept. 17 to 20, 2015.

Show hours are noon-7 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15 (credit cards accepted) for adults and free for children 12 and younger. Free offsite parking and continuous shuttle service will be available.
