World’s largest duck to float in L.A. Tall Ships Festival

LOS ANGELES – Draw Events has announced that Florentijn Hofman’s Rubber Duck project will make its West Coast debut during the Tall Ships Festival L.A., scheduled for Aug. 20.

The giant duck will sail into the Port of Los Angeles leading the Tall Ships Grand Parade of Sail. Spectators will have an opportunity to glimpse the towering float during the event.

“This giant rubber duck is an iconic way to bring all cultures together,” said Craig Samborski, Tall Ship Festival L.A. executive producer. “Los Angeles is the ideal place for the duck to celebrate the world’s diversity and culture.”

The port is the first on the West Coast to host the internationally acclaimed enormous duck and only the second North American city to do so.

The duck project is the creative effort of internationally renowned artist Hofman of The Netherlands.

“The rubber duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation,” Hofman said. “The friendly floating rubber duck has healing properties: it can relieve the world’s tensions as well as define them.

“The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages,” he added.

Hofman’s duck has appeared in Australia, Taiwan, China, Belgium, Japan, New Zealand, Brazil and Pittsburgh.
