Feb. 3 • 1:48 p.m. Boating Safety Unit Lifeguards responded to a report of a paraglider floating in the water off Torrey Pines Glider Port. Lifeguards inspected the parachute and found it unmanned. The gear was retrieved from the water.
Feb. 6 • 5:04 p.m. BSU Lifeguards responded to an emergency call of a child who had fallen into the water at Cook’s Crack. Paramedics were called, and the family transported the child to the hospital.
Feb. 7 • 9:10 a.m. BSU Lifeguards received a mayday call on radio from a vessel off Carlsbad and relayed the message to North County Lifeguards and Oceanside Police. The Coast Guard maintained communication with the vessel.
San Diego Bay
Jan. 23 • 8:03 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a call at Marina Cortez regarding a smoking vessel. The San Diego Fire Department responded and Harbor Police provided hose line support. The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
Feb. 2 • 4:20 p.m. Harbor Police received a report of a vessel collision that occurred in the A-9 Anchorage between two vessels. There were no injuries reported in the collision.
Feb. 2 • 8:55 p.m. Harbor Police received a report of a stolen outboard motor from the dinghy docks at the 4900 block of North Harbor Drive.
Feb. 4 • 10:07 a.m. The Harbor Police team assisted the county coroner in recovering a body from a possible suicide. The incident is under investigation.
ORANGE COUNTY
Dana Point Harbor
Jan. 29 • 11:58 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers recovered an 8-foot-long log floating near the harbor entrance. Officers removed the debris.
Jan. 31 • 10:37 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a blue kayak adrift 600 yards offshore that had been washed off the beach during high tide. Officers retrieved the kayak and released it to its owner.
Feb. 8 • 8:50 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers on a patrol check found dead pelicans on therocks.
Feb. 8 • 11:32 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an adult female subject on the west jetty, refusing to come off. The subject eventually cooperated, and officers were able to get her on the fireboat.
Feb. 9 • 9:23 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel adrift that had lost power near the west basin. Officers assisted in towing the vessel to the launch ramp.
Newport Harbor
Jan. 31 • 12:16 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 13-foot Boston Whaler disabled and adrift near the harbor entrance. Officers located the vessel on the rocks and towed it out of danger.
Feb. 7 • 9:43 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers found a 20-foot sailboat that had sunk at its slip. The vessel had no engine or fuel, so Hazmat was not needed.
Feb. 8 • 12:34 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a recovered 21-foot electric boat that had been reported stolen. Officers contacted the owner and informed him of the found vessel.
Feb. 9 • 4:36 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of three Lido 14s that had overturned. Officers located the owners and towed the vessels back to Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club.
Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Jan. 27 • 4:56 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel in need of a tow. Officers towed the 14-foot vessel back to the launch ramp.
Jan. 27 • 5:13 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a missing kayak, which was retrieved and returned to its owner at Seascape Drive.
Feb. 7 • 10:24 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a sunken vessel. Upon arrival, officers found a 35-foot vessel on its side, sunk at its slip.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY
Marina del Rey
Jan. 29 • 6:30 p.m. Marine Patrol officers observed a suspicious person at the transient docks, reportedly trying to hide from deputies. They arrested an adult man on outstanding warrants.
Jan. 30 • 8:30 a.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to the harbor’s south entrance, where an 18-foot runabout had run aground. Deputies towed the vessel free, and the owner was able to start the engine and drive away.
Jan. 30 Marine Patrol officers responded to the south entrance of the harbor after numerous boats ran aground adjacent to the south jetty. All vessels were either assisted off the shoal by Baywatch and Sheriff’s Marine Patrol, or were able to free themselves. Deputies confirmed that recent storms had increased the shoaling and placed additional buoys to warn boaters.
Feb. 6 • 5:13 p.m. While on patrol, Marine Patrol officers came across a suspicious person at the transient docks and arrested an adult woman on outstanding warrants.
VENTURA COUNTY
Channel Islands Harbor
Jan. 29 • 3:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a disabled 26-foot sailing vessel that had run out of fuel. The vessel was towed from the main basin to the fuek dock and released.
Jan. 30 • 1:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a minor vessel collision at Anacapa Isle Marina. Damage was minor to both vessels was minor, and the owners exchanged information.
Feb. 2 • 1:55 p.m. While on patrol, officers heard a person calling for help who had fallen into the water and could not climb back onto the dock. He was assisted into the Harbor Patrol boat and taken to his dock. He refused medical treatment and was released.
Feb. 4 • 1:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a disabled 27-foot vessel anchored in the main basin. The vessel was towed to its slip.
Ventura Harbor
Jan. 31 • 11:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers and maintenance crews picked up and disposed of 18 dead pelicans found around the harbor.
Feb. 3 • 7:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a request for assistance from the operator of a Boston Whaler disabled behind the breakwater. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
Feb. 5 • 4:54 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received reports of a 38-foot vessel taking on water and in danger of sinking. Upon arrival, officers observed that the vessel’s swim step was 2 inches underwater. They dewatered the vessel.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
Jan. 31 • 9:08 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers and Santa Barbara Police officers responded with the fire department to Stearns Wharf after receiving a report of a man trying to set an object on fire. After Harbor Patrol officers detained the subject, Santa Barbara Police took over the investigation and transported the subject to the station.
Feb. 1 • 5:05 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded offshore after receiving a call of a medical emergency aboard an oil rig crewboat. An officer went aboard the boat, to find the captain ill. The officer initiated basic life support, took control of the crewboat and safely brought the vessel and its crew to the dock.
Feb. 5 • 7:55 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a sailboat dragging anchor through the mooring area. Officers cut and buoyed off the anchor, and towed the boat to a safe slip. |

Mission Bay
Dec. 30 • 10:35 p.m. Boating Safety Unit (BSU) lifeguards responded to a vessel on the rocks in the Mission Bay Channel. Lifeguards were able to rescue and tow the vessel to Dana Point Harbor.
Jan. 1 • 1:31 a.m. BSU night crew responded to the SeaWorld fireworks barge, which had caught fire. San Diego Fire Department firefighters responded, as well, extinguished the fire and assisted in the investigation.
Jan. 1 • 4 p.m. La Jolla lifeguards issued a citation for undersized lobster taken at low tide off the reef. The fisherman cited had no license and no measuring device, and were charged with five counts of taking undersized lobster.
Jan. 9 • 12:31 p.m. BSU lifeguards responded to a call reporting a vessel c apsized near Point Loma. The vessel was a commercial lobster fisherman. One person was on board, and was rescued by another vessel. The Coast Guard is investigating.
San Diego Bay
Dec. 27 • 6:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers arrested a 34-year-old man in an alleged domestic violence incident on a vessel near Ballast Point.
Jan. 7 • 7:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of fishing equipment stolen from a vessel near the 1400 block of Scott Street.
Jan. 7 • 3:00 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fuel spill in the water near the 900 block of Harbor Island Drive. The source vessel was found and the incident is under investigation.
Jan. 11 • 8:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a call of a vessel sinking in the main channel. Officers pumped water out of the boat after the owner secured the source of the leak.
ORANGE COUNTY
Dana Point Harbor
Dec. 23 • 2:22 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a request for a boat tow 1 mile north of Dana Point Harbor. Officers towed a 27-foot vessel with eight people on board to the harbor.
Dec. 26 • 11:08 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report from the Coast Guard of a 15-foot fishing vessel anchored inside a security zone near the power plant.
Dec. 29 • 9:23 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a sailboat with no power needing assistance. Officers towed the subject to the West Basin.
Jan. 1 • 11:17 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a suspicious fishing vessel 300 yards off San Onofre. The Coast Guard investigated.

Jan. 2 • 2:23 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an 18-foot dinghy approximately one-half mile offshore, requesting assistance back to the harbor entrance. Officers escorted the vessel back in.
Jan. 2 • 9:14 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel with no running lights speeding up the coast along Sunset Beach and entering Anaheim Bay.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY
Marina del Rey
Jan. 3 • 12:15 p.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to a report of burglary in F Basin. Deputies took a report of a stolen generator that was allegedly removed from a 43-foot sportfisher. No witnesses could be found.
Jan. 4 • 10:50 a.m. During a routine patrol, Marine Patrol officers inspected a small runabout offshore, and two people on board were reportedly found to have 30 lobsters, caught while diving. The individuals had no license and no lobster card. Deputies cited the divers for unlawful possession and, after officers photographed the evidence, the lobsters were released.
Jan. 6 • 2 p.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to the entrance channel to assist a 42-foot powerboat with engine failure. Deputies towed the vessel to the transient docks.
Jan. 9 • 3:50 p.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to a 29-foot sailboat with engine failure. Deputies towed the vessel with five people on board back to their slip.
Jan. 12 • 2:10 p.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to the harbor’s north entrance, where a 16-foot vessel had gone aground. Deputed assisted with freeing the boat and towed it back to the rental docks.
VENTURA COUNTY
Ventura Harbor
Dec. 29 • 1:40 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers on routine patrol noticed a disabled vessel in the turning basin and towed the vessel to the launch ramp.
Jan. 8 • 2:40 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a distress call from a boat near the beach. Upon arrival, the commercial shrimp vessel had run hard aground. The boat remained intact for about 20 hours, but eventually broke up. Vessel Assist coordinated the cleanup effort.
Jan. 10 • 2:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed one commercial vessel attempting to tow another vessel with a very short tow line, in heavy surf. Patrol officers assisted and took over towing back into the harbor.
Channel Islands Harbor
Dec. 29 • 8:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 17-foot vessel at the harbor entrance. The vessel was towed to the county launch ramp.
Dec. 31 • 2:45 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel with fuel in the bilge at Channel Islands Harbor. Officers secured the vessel’s bilge pump and arrangements were made to have the vessel taken to a local boatyard for repair.
Jan. 3 • 3:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted the Oxnard Police Department with the apprehension of a suspect wanted on a felony warrant.
Jan. 9 • 1:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a possible intoxicated boater in the harbor. After administering field sobriety tests, the operator was suspected of BUI and taken into custody by a Ventura County Sherriff’s deputy.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Santa Barbara Harbor
Jan. 2 • 10:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of an alarm sounding at a local business. Officers located a man with cuts to his hand, and after seeing blood around a broken window at the business, officers detained the man until Santa Barbra Police took him into custody.
Jan. 5 • 10:20 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers came to the assistance of an injured pelican on the beach. The pelican was caged until it was picked up for treatment and rehabilitation.
Jan. 8 • 3:05 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a sailboat adrift in the surfline. Officers assisted in towing the boat away from danger, and back to its slip.
Jan. 8 • 4:53 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a transient man collapsing near Stearns Wharf in cardiac arrest. Officers initiated CPR and defibrillated the patient, and assisted paramedics until the patient was transported to the hospital, where he later died. |

Mission Bay
Dec. 21 • 10:19 a.m. Boating Safety Unit lifeguards responded to a call of a vessel adrift in the Mission Bay Yacht Club area. Lifeguards impounded an 8-foot dinghy.
Dec. 22 • 6:08 a.m. Boating Safety Unit lifeguards responded to a report via Vessel Assist that a person from a kayak group was in the water and sinking. Lifeguards went out on a paddleboard one-half mile off the La Jolla Shores Tower and rescued three kayakers in the incident. Two went to the hospital for cold-water-related injuries.
Dec. 25 • 5:58 a.m. Boating Safety Unit lifeguards responded to a vessel aground south of Ocean Beach Pier. All occupants had fled the scene, and lifeguards contacted agencies to assist in possible smuggling vessel identification.
Dec. 26 • 11:33 a.m. Ocean Beach lifeguards responded to a call of a surfer in distress by the Ocean Beach pier. Lifeguards made a water rescue and cleared the scene.
San Diego Bay
Dec. 20 • 6 p.m. A 33-foot Coast Guard vessel and a 26-foot pleasureboat collided off the West End of Harbor Island. One person was killed and several others were injured in the incident, prior to a holiday boat parade. The NTSB, the Coast Guard and the San Diego Harbor Police are currently conducting investigations.
Dec. 20 • 6:57 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 5-year-old boy who fell approximately 12 feet into the water near Star of India. The boy’s father jumped in after him, and both were removed from the water by officers. The boy was taken to the hospital.
Dec. 22 • 6:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers cited a 53-year-old man on charges of obstructing the main shipping channel with lobster traps.
Dec. 26 • 10:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a fuel spill in Chula Vista Yacht Basin.
Dec. 28 • 4:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted two men on a 21-foot vessel in the Chula Vista channel after their vessel reportedly broke down and was heading for shallow water.

Marina del Rey
Dec. 16 • 1:29 a.m. Los Angeles County Sheriff Marine Patrol officers investigated a report of a suspicious person around the transient docks. The person was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Dec. 18 • 5:33 p.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to an emergency call from a vessel reportedly going aground at the north entrance to the harbor. The vessel was taken in tow and transported back to its slip.
Dec. 21 • 9:03 a.m. While on routine patrol, Marine Patrol officers noticed an anchored vessel offshore taking on water, reportedly in danger of sinking. Deputies were able to stabilize the vessel and tow it to a haulout facility for repair.
Dec. 25 • 12:28 p.m. Marine Patrol officers cited an inbound power vessel for an excessive wake that reportedly rocked numerous vessels in the main channel.
VENTURA COUNTY
Ventura Harbor
Dec. 14 • 4:33 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a request for assistance from a sailboat disabled at the harbor entrance. Patrol officers towed the vessel back to its slip.
Dec. 15 • 12:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel at Anchors Way Boatyard that appeared to have been broken into. Officers investigated and notified the boatyard that five boats had been broken into.
Dec. 19 • 10:20 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a commercial vessel allegedly collided with another vessel in the Keys, with slight damage resulting.
Dec. 20 • 7:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a call from a vessel in need of assistance, taking on water. Patrol officers responded and took the vessel in tow, releasing the boat at the launch ramp.
Dec. 27 • 11:40 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of diesel fuel in the water at Ventura West Marina. Officers inspected, but could not find the source.
Channel Islands Harbor
Dec. 22 • 4:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers took over the tow of a 37-foot fishing vessel from the Coast Guard. The vessel was moored at its slip in Commercial Fishing Marina.
Dec. 23 • 9:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 46-foot vessel near Peninsula Park. The vessel was towed to Anacapa Marine Services. |

Dec. 7 • 12:25 p.m. BSU lifeguards responded to a report of a 35-foot vessel on the rocks in the turning basin of Mission Bay. Lifeguards towed the vessel off the rocks.
Dec. 7 • 4:30 p.m. BSU lifeguards responded to a report of a sinking vessel at a mooring, and the vessel was successfully pumped out.
Dec. 8 • 1:31 p.m. BSU lifeguards responded to a call of a fuel spill in the water at a local fuel dock. The Coast Guard was notified.
Dec. 11 • 9:18 p.m. Vessel Assist responded to a call of a vessel on the rocks, dragging anchor in Mission Bay Channel.
Dec. 13 • 2:01 p.m. BSU lifeguards received a report of a sailboat aground in Mariner’s Basin. The vessel lost anchor and drifted aground, but reportedly, no damage was visible from the incident.
San Diego Bay
Nov. 30 • 9:30 a.m. San Diego Harbor Police officers responded to a call of an oil spill in the water near the 2300 block of North Harbor Drive. Officers found a sunken vessel in the area. The vessel was recovered, and the incident is under investigation.
Dec. 1 • 10:52 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a call of a 90-ton vessel that was adrift near the 900 block of Harbor Island Drive.
Dec. 8 • 1:20 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a call of a man in the water at the Laurel Street Anchorage. When officers arrived, the man was being held afloat by a maintenance worker from a nearby vessel. Officers removed the man from the water and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Dec. 9 • 9:30 p.m. Harbor Police officers received a report of a small vessel stolen from the 2600 block of Shelter Island Drive.
Dec. 10 • 9:00 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of water pollution near the 1400 block of Shelter Island Drive. The source of the pollution was found, and the incident is under investigation.
ORANGE COUNTY
Dana Point Harbor
Dec. 5 • 2:02 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers held a subject at the launch ramp on a possible Fish and Game violation, as the angler was reportedly in possession of a giant black sea bass. A Department of Fish and Game warden from Huntington Beach cited the individual.
Dec. 11 • 3:12 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 32-foot sailboat dragging anchor outside of the east jetty. Officers secured the vessel to the emergency pumpout dock and informed the owner.
Newport Harbor
Dec. 10 • 6:41 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a sinking vessel with 3 feet of water inside and the engines underwater. The owner was informed and made arrangements to tow the vessel to South Coast Shipyard.
Dec. 13 • 1:56 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 36-foot sailboat on fire in Rhine Channel. Officers were informed that the owner’s girlfriend allegedly threatened him with a knife; and when he left, she reportedly set the vessel’s settee on fire. Two other boats near the burning sailboat were also damaged, and were moved to a safer location. The woman was taken into custody.
Dec. 17 • 6:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers towed an electric boat with Christmas lights wrapped around its propeller back to its dock.
Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Dec. 6 • 12:27 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident near the jetty involving a 37-foot cruiser with six people on board, left high and dry on rocks on the east side of the jetty. Coast Guard personnel responded and retrieved the subjects from the vessel, with no injuries reported.
Dec. 6 • 10:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted in towing the vessel stuck on the rocks off the jetty and back to the harbor. The boat was taken to a local boatyard and left with the salvage company.
Dec. 9 • 1:48 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an 18-foot electric boat in need of a tow near Midway Channel. Officers towed the vessel to its home slip.
Dec. 14 • 9:34 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a large sea lion, possibly sick, that needed to be hauled out of Christiana Bay. Officers notified the Pacific Marine Mammal Center of the incident.
Dec. 15 • 10:37 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a man floating in the water near the 4100 block of Aladdin Drive. Upon arrival, they found a body between houses and a dock, and confirmed that the man was dead. The incident is under investigation.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY
Marina del Rey
Dec. 7 • 3:30 p.m. Marine Patrol officers conducted an investigation of a boating accident that reportedly involved one vessel slipping anchor and colliding with another at the south entrance to the harbor. No injuries were reported.
Dec. 8 • 9:45 p.m. Marine Patrol officers conducted an investigation regarding a suspicious person in the area of the transient docks.
Dec. 14 • 12:28 p.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to a call of a sinking boat. The vessel was stabilized and water was pumped clear of the hull.
Dec. 14 • 10:10 p.m. Marine Patrol deputies impounded an unlit vessel that was reported to be a hazard to navigation.
Catalina Island
Dec. 5 • 5:10 p.m. Coast Guard personnel responded to a report of a woman overboard from a fishing boat north of Catalina Island. The woman was reportedly napping on deck when she slipped off the boat around 3:45 p.m. The captain of the boat reportedly did not realize she was missing until 5:10 p.m. A Coast Guard helicopter located the woman at 5:45 p.m., treading 59-degree water for two hours without a life jacket. She was picked up by a Coast Guard boat and rushed to the hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.
VENTURA COUNTY
Ventura Harbor
Dec. 5 • 7:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a request for assistance from a disabled vessel. Patrol took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.
Dec. 8 • 8:50 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers found a line connected to a very large trap in the Turning Basin. Patrol marked it with a buoy and had the trap removed.
Channel Islands Harbor
Dec. 5 • 4:20 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a vessel had been cast free from the Harbor Landing guest dock while the owner was at a restaurant. Officers inspected the vessel for damage and tampering.
Dec. 10 • 1:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a bilge alarm on board a vessel at the Ventura County guest docks. Officers assisted the owner with dewatering the vessel. |

Nov. 17 • 7:40 p.m. Harbor Police officers towed a 22-foot power vessel from the area of the Coronado Bridge after it reportedly lost power and lighting in midchannel. The vessel and operator were taken to a nearby dock until repairs could be made.
Nov. 18 • 3 a.m. Harbor Police officers cited the operator of a 26-foot vessel for illegal mooring in Glorietta Bay.
Nov. 24 • 8:05 p.m. Harbor Police officers cited two people for obstructing the main shipping channel with lobster hoop nets.

No people were in the car. It was later determined that the driver had gotten out of the vehicle to pay for parking, and then the vehicle rolled into the harbor.

Oct. 15 • 10:55 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a commercial fishing vessel that reportedly collided with the dock at Marine Emporium Landing. According to reports, the vessel had experienced mechanical problems and drifted into the dock, resulting in minor damage to the dock.
Oct. 15 • 8:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled 14-foot vessel at the harbor entrance. The vessel was towed to Channel Islands Sportfishing and released.
Ventura Harbor
Sept. 28 • 10:48 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a submerged sailboat one-half mile outside the harbor. Upon arrival, officers found a 20-foot sailboat floating stern up. Officers towed it to the harbor and left it in the dirt area by the launch ramp. According to official reports, there was evidence that the vessel had been intentionally sunk.
Sept. 29 • 3:45 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a request for assistance from the skipper of a sailboat that lost power near the harbor entrance. Officers took the vessel into tow and released it at its slip at Ventura West Marina.
Oct. 2 • Noon Harbor Patrol officers towed a cabin cruiser from a dock at Harbor Village because the vessel’s owner reportedly had never entered into a moorage agreement with the marina.
Oct. 3 • 9:50 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of someone flushing a head overboard at Harbor Village. When officers arrived, the area had been cleaned up. A fellow crewmember told officers that the responsible party had left the area. Officers advised the reporting crewmember to pass a verbal warning along to the allegedly responsible party.

Aug. 22 • 3:30 p.m. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol deputies responded to Gallagher Canyon on Catalina Island, when a person aboard a 15-foot runabout flagged them down close to shore, during a routine patrol. The boat owner explained that the vessel was about to go aground due to engine failure, and one person aboard was seasick. Deputies towed the vessel toward Avalon and passed the tow over to the Avalon Harbor Patrol.

Santa Monica Bay
Aug. 22 • 6:08 p.m. Marine Patrol deputies responded to Point Dume to assist Baywatch and the Coast Guard in recovering a sinking 42-foot powerboat with five people aboard. Passengers were taken aboard the Baywatch boat, while Marine Patrol deputies towed the vessel to Marina del Rey and intentionally grounded the vessel on the shoal of the jetty. Once high tide came, the vessel was dewatered, refloated and towed to its slip.

Aug. 2 • 1:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a radio call for assistance from a sailing vessel located approximately 1 mile off the Oceanside Pier. The sailboat had reportedly become entangled in a buoy and was unable to free itself.
Aug. 2 • 3 p.m. While on patrol, a Harbor Patrol rescue boat was hailed by a disabled vessel at the harbor entrance. The boat was taken in tow and returned to the launch ramp.
Aug. 2 • 3:45 p.m. A vessel owner notified Harbor Patrol officers that an unknown boat was in his slip. The offending boat was impounded.

Aug. 3 • 6:01 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a sailboat aground at McGrath State Beach. Attempts to free the vessel were unsuccessful. Vessel Assist was able to tow the vessel off the beach.
Aug. 5 • 6:45 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a sailboat that lost power near Ventura Isle Marina and had drifted toward other boats. Officers took the vessel into tow and released it at its slip.
Aug. 8 • 5:17 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed two vessels in need of assistance outside the harbor. A powerboat was reportedly towing a sailboat out of the harbor when the rudder of the sailboat peeled in half and the powerboat became disabled. July 18 • 3:45 p.m. A 35-foot vessel reportedly collided with a dock near the 2000 block of Shelter Island Drive, causing damage to the vessel and the dock. The 50-year-old operator was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs and illegal chartering.
July 19 • Noon A dinghy was reported stolen from a dock in the 600 block of Marina Parkway in Chula Vista.
July 19 • 2:30 p.m. A 37-foot sailboat reportedly collided with an anchored 17-foot powerboat near Buoy 12, causing minor damage to both.
July 19 • 7:30 p.m. Harbor Police officers assisted an 18-foot vessel that had lost power near Buoy 22. When they arrived, officers discovered that the 75-year-old operator had injured his hand. Officers took the vessel and its operator to the Shelter Island launch ramp, where medics treated and released the operator.
July 24 • 7:30 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a reported fuel spill near the 400 block of West Harbor Drive. The source vessel was reportedly found. The incident is under investigation.
July 26 • 1:32 a.m. A 27-year-old man was cited for operating an illegal charter operation out of San Diego Bay. The Coast Guard is investigating other reported violations.

July 13 • 2:19 p.m. Lifeguards received a report of a capsized sailboat in Mission Bay.
July 16 • 6:10 p.m. Lifeguards received a call of a 40-foot Catalina that ran aground in Mariners Basin. Lifeguards towed the vessel off the sandbar and rocks.
July 19 • 1:10 p.m. Lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel taking on water 1 mile off Point Loma, with four people on board. Lifeguards arrived on scene and assisted the Coast Guard in dewatering the vessel. The Coast Guard escorted the vessel back to San Diego Bay.
July 19 • 3:06 p.m. Lifeguards responded to a report of a kayak accident at La Jolla shores boat ramp.

July 20 • 12:05 p.m. Island Packers called to report that the Pump-a-Head on the dock was oozing sewage. Harbor Patrol officers contacted maintenance.
July 21 • 9:54 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers were flagged down by a person reporting that there had been a fire on a boat at Ventura West Marina. A small amount of gasoline had collected in the manifold of a vessel and reportedly caught fire when a mechanic started the engine. The mechanic extinguished the flame with a fire extinguisher from the dock. The mechanic reportedly suffered minor injuries.
July 21 • 6:50 p.m. A sailing vessel operator reported a capsized outrigger canoe just outside the harbor. Harbor Patrol officers responded and found six people in the water. Due to wind chop, they were unable to dewater the craft. Officers brought the passengers onto the patrol boat and towed the outrigger to the beach, where the crew was able to dewater the craft.
July 23 • 1:14 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers and others responded to a multiple water rescue at the South Beach. Officers found a lifeguard swimming a mostly submerged stand-up-style personal watercraft out of the surf. Officers brought the lifeguard on board the patrol boat and towed the PWC to the launch ramp.

June 11 • 2:35 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled personal watercraft at the entrance to Channel Islands Harbor. The PWC was towed to the launch ramp.
June 14 • 9:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a disabled 40-foot sailboat dragging anchor and in danger of going onto the beach by Port Hueneme. The vessel was towed to the Harbormaster Dock.
June 14 • 1:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers rescued three people from the hull of their capsized 30-foot sportfishing boat, one-half mile southwest of the entrance to Channel Islands Harbor. The vessel was salvaged by Vessel Assist. All three people were brought to the Harbor Patrol office.

May 23 • 1:47 p.m. Lifeguards responded to a report of a vessel on the rocks near the south channel jetty. Officers reportedly pulled the vessel away from the rocks and tried to tow it, but the boat sank in the channel. Vessel Assist was contacted for a salvage operation. The boat’s only occupant was reported safe, without injuries.
May 24 • 12:08 p.m. Lifeguards responded to a report of a capsized boat north of North Cove. Upon arrival, officers observed that a Good Samaritan had righted the vessel. Officers assessed the situation and concluded no further assistance was needed.

May 19 • 1:50 p.m. Baywatch Avalon responded to a report of a vessel aground east of Catalina at Seal Rock. Upon arrival, officers observed Good Samaritans assisting the passengers off the beach. Officers assessed the vessel and found that it was still operational and was not taking on water.
May 23 • 1:47 p.m. Baywatch Avalon responded to a personal watercraft collision with two people on board. One person was injured and was transferred to an area hospital.
Two Harbors
May 22 • 4:20 p.m. Baywatch Isthmus responded to a report of an overturned inflatable boat at Shark Harbor. Officers righted the vessel and towed the boat to Catalina Harbor.
May 23 • 12:46 a.m. Baywatch Isthmus received a report of a vessel taking on water at Rippers Cove, with one person on board. Officers located the source of the leak, and the water was successfully pumped out by deckhands.

March 11 • 9 a.m. A hazardous chemical spill was reported near Navy Pier 6, Buoy 28. Coast Guard personnel were notified, and the incident is under investigation.
March 11 • 9 a.m. An additional hazardous chemical spill was reported from Navy Pier 6 to the entrance of the Marriott area. An investigation is pending by the Coast Guard and the California Department of Fish and Game.
March 11 • 11:30 a.m. Harbor Police responded to a report of a hazardous spill in America’s Cup Harbor. Coast Guard personnel responded, and Natural Response Corp. Environmental Services set up booms to contain the spill. An investigation is pending on the origin of the spill.
March 14 • 3:30 p.m. Harbor Police responded to a report of three people thrown overboard near Buoy 14, due to a large wake. Officers assisted the victims to their vessel. No injuries were reported.
March 15 • 6:16 p.m. Harbor Police assisted a vessel that had run aground at Gunpowder Point. Harbor Police stabilized the vessel until a commercial tow service arrived and took control of the vessel.
March 18 • 7:46 p.m. Harbor Police escorted a vessel in distress in dense fog from the 24th Street Marine Terminal to J Street Marina.
Mission Bay
March 10 • 6:09 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel in the surf against the rocks near Santa Cruz Street in Ocean Beach. Officers located the owner, who claimed he had anchored the vessel during the night and swam ashore. The Coast Guard was notified to investigate. Officers assessed the vessel as a complete loss.
March 10 • 12:50 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a disabled vessel in the middle of the channel. Officers towed the boat and turned it over to a commercial towing firm for further assistance.
March 12 • 11 a.m.Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel on the rocks near Mariners Basin. The skipper was able to move his boat off the rocks, and officers found no visible damage to the boat.

March 22 • 4:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel about to be dismasted off West Basin. Officers secured the vessel as much as possible and contacted the owner.

March 6 • 3:46 p.m. Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Marine Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel with engine failure drifting in the main channel with three people on board in danger of hitting nearby vessels. Officers towed the boat to its slip.
March 10 • 11:02 p.m. Marine Patrol officers received a report of a disabled vessel with two people on board at the entrance to the harbor. Officers towed the boat to the launch ramp.
March 16 • 9:26 a.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to a call of a vessel illegally moored and allegedly stealing electricity from an anchorage in B Basin. Officers stopped the vessel and detained the operator for further investigation. The dockmaster later made a citizen’s arrest for theft of utilities.
March 20 • 8:35 a.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel taking on water in its slip. Officers dewatered the vessel, removing 6,300 gallons, but were unable to determine the source of the leak. The vessel was turned over to the dockmaster.

Ventura Harbor
March 9 • 3:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boating accident at the fuel dock. Officers assessed the situation and found no visible damages.
March 10 • 11:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a commercial vessel discharging unknown fluid into the water. Officers arrived at the scene to investigate and reportedly found the skipper had dumped the water to facilitate unloading of his product. He was advised he could not discharge material in the water that causes foam in the harbor.
March 12 • 11:05 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report from a commercial assistance vessel requesting officers to relieve them of a tow of a disabled boat. Officers took the vessel and released it at the Fish Offloading Dock.
March 12 • 2:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a disabled vessel near the Whistle Buoy. Officers towed the vessel and released it the launch ramp.
March 14 • 3:55 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel close to the surfline near Marina Park. Upon arrival, the vessel was found to be under way and not in distress. Officers issued a verbal warning to the skipper for operating in excess of 5 mph within 200 feet of a beach frequented by bathers.
March 14 • 6:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel taking on water. The skipper requested officers to contact a boatyard for a haulout. The vessel was moored at the long dock, waiting for the haulout.
March 16 • 2:10 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled boat in the Keys. Upon arrival, the vessel was drifting toward its dock. Officers stood by until the boat was safely at the dock.

March 4 • 2 p.m.Harbor Police towed a disabled vessel near the Zuniga Jetty after it was discovered that the vessel was reported stolen. The suspect was reportedly in jail on other charges.
March 5 • 2 p.m.A stolen outboard motor was recovered and returned to its owner.
March 9 • 10 a.m.San Diego Harbor Police responded to a call of a possible drowning near the 4990 block of North Harbor Drive. Officers were contacted by a friend of the victim, Rhonda Lois Lord, who reported that the 46-year-old woman was intoxicated and said she was going to swim to a boat anchored in America’s Cup Harbor. After seeing the woman swim off, her friend reportedly left the area, she told officers. The woman was found the next morning floating face down in the harbor. The San Diego County Medical Examiners Office listed the cause of death as accidental drowning with acute alcohol intoxication as a contributing factor.

March 9 • 1:05 p.m.San Diego Lifeguard Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel in distress off Indian Canyon and Black’s Beach in La Jolla. Officers assessed the skipper was not in danger.
March 10 • 6:09 a.m.Harbor Patrol received a report of a vessel in the surf being washed up against the rocks at Santa Cruz Street in Ocean Beach. Officers located the owner who claimed he had anchored the vessel during the night and swam ashore. Coast Guard was notified to investigate. Officers assessed the vessel was a complete loss.
March 12 • 11 a.m.Harbor Patrol received a report of a vessel on the rocks near Mariners Basin. The skipper was able to move his boat off the rocks. Officers assessed no visible damage to the boat.

Feb. 18 • 10:48 p.m.Baywatch Cabrillo responded to a report of a submerged vessel 3.5 miles off Los Angeles Harbor. A floating fiberglass top was retrieved.
Marina del Rey
Feb. 5 • 11:45 p.m.Marina del Rey Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol officers responded to a call reporting a dead person aboard an oil tanker moored off El Segundo. Deputies responded and confirmed that an adult man had died in his room during the night. Coroner investigators responded and deputies transported the deceased to the Marina del Rey station. The case is under investigation.
Feb. 6 • 6:30 p.m.Marine Patrol officers responded to a report of a disabled vessel with one person on board in Santa Monica Bay. The vessel was in the surf line with a fouled propeller and was about to go aground. Officers promptly arrived and took the vessel in tow to the county launch ramp.
Feb. 13 • 5:45 p.m.Baywatch del Rey and Baywatch Santa Monica conducted a search and rescue after receiving a distress call from a boat reportedly between Redondo Beach and Point Dume. Nothing was found.
Feb. 15 • 11:35 a.m. Marine Patrol officers responded to a call of a disabled vessel with four people on board, adrift without power in the harbor’s main channel. Deputies took the vessel in tow and returned it to its slip.
Feb. 19 • 6:28 p.m.Marine Patrol officers responded to a call at F Basin of a vessel sinking in its slip. Deputies dewatered the vessel, removing 700 gallons of seawater, and found a leak in the engine’s raw water intake. The leak was secured and the owner was notified.
Feb. 21 • 6:40 a.m.Marine Patrol deputies responded to a report of a vessel experiencing steering failure in the harbor’s main channel. Deputies took the vessel in tow and returned it to its slip.
Feb. 22 • 12:55 a.m.Marine Patrol officers responded to a report of a dead person floating in the water 2 miles off Santa Monica Pier. With the assistance of Baywatch Lifeguards, deputies recovered the body of a badly decomposed adult man and transported it to MdR Station. The case is under investigation and may be related to a vessel found capsized and adrift some time ago. An extensive search with multiple agencies did not find the skipper after a dinghy was recovered adrift and capsized around the same location.

Jan. 29 • 3.30 p.m. A 24-year-old man was arrested for boating under the influence, evading officers and resisting arrest, after allegedly struggling with federal officers off Imperial Beach. His passenger, a 24-year-old woman was arrested and charged with public drunkenness, according to police.
Jan. 31 • 1:33 p.m. Harbor Police rescued a 15-year-old boy who reportedly could not move after his kayak overturned. He was treated for hypothermia and transferred back to shore.
Feb. 3 • 3:40 p.m. Three passengers aboard a 16-foot skiff were thrown overboard when the vessel capsized after attempting to cross a large wake. Harbor Police retrieved the three individuals.

Jan. 31 • 5:15 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a possible boat fire at the harbor entrance. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a broken water line was causing steam to rise from a 19-foot boat. An outside agency towed the vessel to the launch ramp.
Feb. 4 • 1:10 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to two individuals who were reportedly fighting on a vessel in the west basin. One of the individuals was arrested.
Feb. 5 • 7:29 p.m. Three passengers were thrown into the water after their 10-foot skiff capsized during a fishing trip. The individuals were retrieved by Harbor Patrol officers and the boat was towed to the launch ramp.
Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Jan. 26• 12:25 p.m. An individual reported that his blue kayak had disappeared after he tied up the boat. Harbor Patrol officers located the kayak and returned it to the owner.
Jan. 31• 4:16 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers cited and ordered a powerboat operator to return to the dock after officers reported seeing the skipper speeding and recklessly operating near other boaters in the harbor.

Jan. 31 • 4:16 p.m. Baywatch Cabrillo responded to a fire aboard a 35-foot powerboat at a commercial dock. The fire was extinguished and the boat was towed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Jan. 29 • 8:30 a.m. . Baywatch Del Rey assisted a 24-foot sailboat that was dragging anchor during strong winds. The vessel was towed to the sheriff’s dock in Marina del Rey.
Feb. 6 • 6:20 p.m. Baywatch Santa Monica responded to a 24-foot vessel that had its propeller entangled in a lobster trap. One passenger was retrieved and the boat was towed to launch ramp.
CATALINA ISLAND

Feb. 5 • 2:57 a.m. Baywatch Avalon participated in the search for a missing plane that took off from Long Beach. The Coast Guard divided search parties between the water and land. The downed plane was eventually located near a popular hiking trail. All three passengers had been killed in the crash.

Feb. 7 • 1:47 p.m. Baywatch Isthmus responded to a report of a young man with a possible dive emergency aboard a boat. He was treated and stabilized until a physician from the hyperbaric chamber arrived and continued treatment.

Feb. 9 • 4 p.m. A boat crew contacted Baywatch Isthmus after a mooring line had become tangled in the vessel’s running gear. Baywatch responded and helped get the boat running again.

Ventura Harbor
Jan. 28 • 2:17 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a reported fight between two men aboard a vessel 2.5 miles from shore. Both individuals were taken into custody and one received medical attention for injuries sustained. The vessel was towed to the Harbor Patrol dock after taking on water.
Feb. 4 • 2:40 p.m. A vessel in a slip was reported to be leaking fuel. Harbor Patrol officers contained the spill and began cleanup. The owner finished the cleanup, upon arrival.
Feb. 7 • 10:45 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed six hoop-nets, disguised with wood and black line, used for illegally capturing lobsters. The nets were retrieved and seven lobsters were set free.

Jan. 3 • 9 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers filed a missing persons report for a 45-year-old male who embarked on a cruise from Dana Point. The next day, Coast Guard located the sailor on his vessel just outside Dana Point Harbor.
Jan. 6• 8 a.m. A 50-year-old male was taken into custody on an outstanding felony warrant after Harbor Patrol responded to a disturbance call at his vessel in the Laurel Street Anchorage.
Jan. 7 • 4:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 25-foot powerboat after it lost power near buoy 16A. Officers reportedly stopped the vessel from grounding before commercial assistance arrived.

Dec. 25 • 8:57 a.m. After being warned by staff members not to dock in the guest slips due to bad weather, a boat owner reportedly attempted to dock anyway and damaged several slips. Harbor Patrol officers arrived to transport the vessel to a secure location.
Dec. 30 • 2:01 p.m. A boat owner reported his vessel was missing from his slip earlier in the morning. An individual later contacted Harbor Patrol officers about the missing boat, which was adrift. It was tied up to stairs that lead down to the beach.

Jan. 13 • 4:30 p.m. Baywatch Avalon responded to an emergency call aboard the cruise ship Paradise from a patient with a medical emergency. The patient was treated and transported to the hospital.

Channel Islands Harbor
Jan. 10 • 10:05 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers towed a disabled powerboat from the outer harbor to the launch ramp.
Jan. 12 • 4:50 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a vessel on the rocks at the outer jetty of Channel Islands Harbor. One person was rescued from the water and another from the jetty. The vessel was towed to the launch ramp and the two individuals were checked for injuries.
Ventura Harbor
Jan. 1 • 11:20 a.m. A Department of Fish and Game warden found a rifle on the beach. Harbor Patrol officers contacted Ventura Police, due to the possible connection to the rifle and two murders that occurred in the previous two weeks.
Jan. 3 • 2:40 p.m. A boater reported to Harbor Patrol officers that his rudder and the boom from his sailboat were stolen from the dinghy rack.
Jan. 4 • 8:15 p.m. Ventura Police picked up a baby seal near a parking structure off Harbor Boulevard. The animal was dropped off with Harbor Patrol officers and later handed over to a marine life rescue group.

June 3 • 12:50 p.m. Harbor Police reportedly found workers illegally discharging debris into the water from a vessel in America’s Cup Harbor. The incident is under investigation.
June 3 • 9:20 p.m. Harbor Police responded to a fight on a vessel near the 2300 block of Shelter Island Drive. A 45-year-old man was arrested on outstanding warrants.
June 10 • 12:19 a.m. A 24-year-old man was arrested on a dock near the 2200 block of Shelter Island Drive after a report of domestic battery.
June 15 • 5 p.m. An outboard motor was reported stolen from a boat in a parking lot in the 2200 block of Shelter Island Drive.
June 20 • 9:45 p.m. Two 20-year-old men were arrested and reportedly charged with attempted grand theft near the dinghy dock near the 2300 block of North Harbor Drive.
June 23 • 4:40 p.m. Officers reported that a 20-foot vessel collided with a docked 30-foot vessel in the Chula Vista basin. Moderate damage to the 30-footer was reported. |

Dec. 26 * 7 a.m. A 35-foot vessel sank at a mooring in the Laurel Street Anchorage. Harbor Patrol officers were dispatched to investigate.
Jan. 3 * 9 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers filed a missing persons report for a 45-year-old male who embarked on a cruise from Dana Point. The next day, Coast Guard located the sailor on his vessel just outside Dana Point Harbor.
Jan. 6 * 8 a.m. A 50-year-old male was taken into custody on an outstanding felony warrant after Harbor Patrol responded to a disturbance call at his vessel in the Laurel Street Anchorage.
Jan. 7 * 4:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 25-foot powerboat after it lost power near buoy 16A. Officers reportedly stopped the vessel from grounding before commercial assistance arrived. |
