Editorial -- Get Ready for America's Cup Racingposted: 8/29/2013
Before the main event, some of the world’s top young sailors will compete in the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup on San Diego Bay, Sept. 1-4. Racing aboard fast AC45 catamarans -- the same boats used during the America’s Cup World Series -- will start at 11 a.m. each day, with eight races scheduled.
America’s Cup Finals are set to begin Sept. 7. Hundreds of boaters will be watching the action on the water -- and numerous spectator ticket packages are available for others who will take in the action on shore, from special rooftop venues or from aboard VIP charter yachts.
If you’re planning to head to San Francisco to watch the Cup competition, organizers advise that many tickets are still available for the spectator venues. They can be purchased online at americascup.com.
You can also watch the finals on television. NBC is scheduled to televise Race 1, from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 7; and Race 2, from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 8.
NBC Sports will also carry additional finals races, scheduled for 12:30-3:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 12 and 14 -- and, if a winner has not yet been determined, on Sept. 15, 17, 19 and 21.
America’s Cup race highlights and live feeds will also be available on YouTube -- viewable on your computer, smartphone or tablet.
And if you want to totally immerse yourself in all things America’s Cup, a free Official America’s Cup app is available for your iPhone, Android or iPad. It can be downloaded at americascup.com.
