A Grand Celebration

Huntington Harbour Yacht Club celebrated its 50th Opening Day anniversary, Sunday, April 12, with a boat parade and traditional customs. The parade, led by the Orange County Sherriff’s Department Sunset-Huntington Harbor Patrol’s Fire Boat, passed by to salute Huntington Harbour YC’s 50th Commodore, Kimberley Harrison, Flag Officers, Vice Commodore John Schmidt, Rear Commodore Dean Oliver, Fleet Capt. Rick Stamper and Jr. Staff Commodore Phil Ventura.

The club was started in 1965 by a few individuals who got together to share their love of sailing. Meetings and gatherings were held in living rooms and garages until the first Club House was established off Warner Avenue and gatherings were moved to the Barefoot Bar. The club’s current location was dedicated on April 15, 1978.
