Bahia Corinthian YC to Host Corinthian Cup Regatta, Oct. 27-28posted: 10/20/2012
The regatta features two days of racing in Newport Harbor. Five to seven races are planned, depending on the wind, and all junior sailors of Southern California Youth Yacht Racing Association member clubs are eligible to compete.
The Corinthian Cup will be awarded to the overall best performing yacht club team, based on points accumulated. The more sailors on a team and the better they do, the better chance they have to win, organizers said.
All of the members of the team that wins will receive Olympic-style Gold medals.
The event will feature several one-design sailboat classes, including Sabot, Laser Radial, Laser, CFJ and 420. Each one-design class is also separately scored, and trophies will be distributed.
Past years’ participants in the event have included San Diego Yacht Club, Corinthian Yacht Club, Mission Bay Yacht Club, Dana Point Yacht Club, Balboa Yacht Club, Lido Isle Yacht Club, Newport Harbor Yacht Club, Seal Beach Yacht Club, Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and Anacapa Yacht Club.
Special hotel rates are available through Ayres Hotel in Costa Mesa. Box lunches, commemorative T-shirts and trophy snacks are offered, as well. Erik Mayol is the Corinthian Cup chairman.
