SDYC hosts Race for Rady

SAN DIEGO –  The 2014 Race for Rady beach bash and regatta will be held at the San Diego Yacht Club, Sept. 20 and 21 as a fundraiser for the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital.

For two days, sailors and guests can help raise money for the hospital in a variety of ways. Guests can enjoy the Beach Bash Fundraising Party scheduled to be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at San Diego YC where silent and live auctions, dinner, dancing and live entertainment will be provided. The Beach Boys cover band, Surf’s Up, will provide the night’s music. On Sunday, Sept. 21, a PHRF Bay Race/Pursuit will be sponsored by San Diego YC.

The Race for Rady is an expansion of the San Diego YC SailFest event that will be held Sept. 20. The regatta, founded in 1996 by Troy Sears, grants Rady Children’s Hospital patients a day on the water as they enjoy a cruise on the bay. Children and their families then dine on hamburgers and hot dogs and enjoy a range of activities, which include face painting, pony rides and crafts back at the yacht club.

The Harbor Patrol boat, a fire engine and police patrol car will also be on site for the kids to explore.

More than 60 families from Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and Balboa Naval Medical Hospital are expected to partiaipate in the 18th annual San Letzring SailFest event.

The Peckham Center at Rady Children’s is the largest pediatric hematology/oncology program serving San Diego, Imperial and Riverside counties.
