Gov. Brown names San Carlos woman to Boating Commission

SACRAMENTO (LOG NEWS SERVICE) — Gov. Jerry Brown announced on Oct. 20 that he has appointed Cecily Harris of San Carlos to fill a vacancy on the Boating and Waterways Commission.

Harris has been a development consultant for the San Mateo County Department of Parks since 2012, where she was a financial services manager from 2006 to 2012 and has been a public agency consultant since 1988. 
Harris was a landscape architecture specialist for the City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department from 2000 to 2007, an executive director at the San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society from 1994 to 2000 and managing director at the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society from 1990 to 1994. She is a member of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District Board of Directors. 
Harris, 56, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Natural Resources, Wildlife Sciences from the University of Arizona and a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She has a Certificate in Fundraising Management from Indiana University.

In addition to working for and with conservation groups and public agencies, she enjoys sea kayaking, telemark skiing, hiking and backpacking throughout the many parks and open spaces in California.

A Democrat, her appointment to the seven member commission requires Senate confirmation. Commissioners receive $100 per diem while on commission business.

The Boating and Waterways Commission is mandated by the Harbors and Navigation Code to advise and comment to the Division of Boating and Waterways on all matters within its jurisdiction. The Commission must also advise and comment on all boating facilities loans and grants proposed by the division.
