DESCRIPTION:Join the Catalina Island Conservancy for an engaging and social evening of science at this free community Science Pub. Designed to spark curiosity in a relaxed atmosphere\, the January program focuses on migration — one of nature’s most extraordinary processes. Experts will explore how birds and whales travel across vast landscapes and seascapes\, and why these journeys are vital to the health of our coastal ecosystems. \n  \nThe evening features two short presentations led by whale- and bird-migration experts\, Melissa Brode and Alisa Schulman-Janiger. Brode\, an environmental scientist and reserve manager for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife\, will discuss shorebird migration along the Pacific Flyway and the critical role of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. Schulman-Janiger\, a longtime cetacean researcher and educator\, will share her extensive knowledge of gray whale migration through the San Pedro Channel and its ecological significance. Following the talks\, attendees will have time to ask questions\, connect\, and enjoy a casual night of learning. This insightful event offers will offer a relaxed\, social experience with time for discussion. Travel to and from Catalina Island is not included and must be arranged in advance.
