ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor

June 8 • 11:14 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a burglary aboard a 28-foot power boat in E Basin that, according to reports, was wide open, with a variety of items taken.

 

Newport Harbor

June 12 • 12:25 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of an older vessel on a mooring that was sitting low in the water because of numerous sea lions that had come aboard. When officers arrived at the scene, the sea lions were gone, but the boat was still sitting low. It was taking on water and had to be pumped out.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Long Beach Harbor

May 31 • 1 p.m. Long Beach Police Boat 1 noticed a 60-foot sailboat was under way just outside Queens Gate but was not making way in the shipping lanes, with a cargo ship making its inbound approach. The sailboat operator was contacted and stated that he had lost some kayak paddles and was attempting to retrieve them. The operator did not notice the inbound ship, and was told to move inside the breakwall. Officers retrieved the paddles once the cargo ship had safely passed. Four paddles were safely retrieved and given back to owner.

June 2 • 6 p.m. Long Beach Police Boat 2 responded to a distress call reporting that a 24-foot sportfishing boat .25 mile outside Queen’s Gate that had lost power and was dead in water. Officers arrived on the scene and took the vessel in tow to Davies Launch Ramp in Alamitos Bay.

 

VENTURA COUNTY

Ventura Harbor

June 6 • 6:25 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a report that a sailboat had collided with two vessels at Harbor Village Marina. Officers responded and assisted the people in exchanging information.

June 8 • 4:08 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted in a water rescue off McGraph State Beach. Upon arrival, officers found a vessel ineffectively anchored 80 yards off the beach. Officers took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.

June 10 • 10:45 a.m. Several marina tenants reported a boating accident in which a vessel reportedly left the scene. Harbor Patrol officers located the suspect vessel and its operator at the fuel dock, officers contacted the operator and they looked for possible damage. It was determined that the damage was likely less than $500. Information was collected and exchanged.

June 10 • 11:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a vessel disabled just outside the harbor entrance. Officers responded, took the vessel into tow and released it at the launch ramp.

 

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Santa Barbara Harbor

June 3 • 4:05 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a dog caught in the kelp bed outside Leadbetter Point, with a distraught owner on the beach. Harbor Patrol officers responded on Patrol Boat #2. After they arrived, they discovered the dog had been rescued by a citizen.

June 6 • 6 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded on Patrol Boat #2 to a report of an overturned PWC, .25 mile east of Stearns Wharf. While responding to pick up the PWC, a 911 “Water Rescue” call came out from dispatch of a person in the water off Stearns Wharf. Officers on the scene picked up two subjects who were somewhat disoriented but making way back into the harbor on their rented PWC. The subjects showed mild signs of hypothermia, officers reported, but were otherwise alert. The refused transportation to a local hospital.

June 8 • 5:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded on Patrol Boat #3 to a report of a windsurfer down, approximately .75 mile off the yacht club. Officers contacted the subject and took him aboard their boat. He was uninjured and was brought back to the courtesy dock.
