NEWPORT BEACH — A weekend of free family friendly activities is planned for Newport Beach area boaters and water enthusiasts at the grand opening of West Marine’s largest store in California, Oct. 3-6.
The new West Marine Flagship Newport Beach store — located at 3433 Via Lido, in the Via Lido Shopping Center — covers 27,500 square feet and offers more than 18,000 products. It is three times the size of a normal West Marine store, which is 8,000 square feet.
Grand Opening festivities begin at 8 a.m. and continue Thursday through Sunday. They include a “Cruising for a Cause” Charity Night, “door-buster” deals, Fashion Friday, Raymarine’s Mobile Showroom, Simrad on-the-water electronics demos, tuna fishing seminars, expert advice and more.
Newport Beach Mayor Keith Curry will welcome the new West Marine store to town at a ribbon-cutting ceremony, set to include a proclamation at 6 p.m. Oct. 3, at the beginning of the “Cruising for a Cause” Charity Night — which continues through 9 p.m.
Captain Aleks from the Bravo television program “Below Deck” will emcee at the Charity Night, and entertainment will include the Reef Brothers Band, Maui Jim hula dancers, gourmet appetizers, cocktails and a variety of activities, including a live auction. “Cruising for a Cause” tickets are $10, available at the door, and 100 percent of the proceeds go to local marine-oriented charities.
