Re; Newport Beach takes action to deter bridge jumpers
The article indicates that the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) handled the investigation, arrest and incarceration of the suspected perpetrator of the crime of jumping off of the Lido Bridge in Newport Beach. Why would the OCSD be involved in a crime that occurred exclusively in the City of Newport Beach? Because Newport Harbor is granted in trust to the City by the State of California it stands to reason that the Newport Beach Police Department would be able to handle an incident that began on a city bridge and ended in a city harbor.
