From complimentary guest docks and overnight transient moorage to restaurants, marine services and entertainment within walking distance, Ventura Harbor Village offers visiting boaters a convenient stop along the Southern California coast.
VENTURA — For boaters cruising the Southern California coast, Ventura Harbor Village offers something particularly useful: a place where a vessel can stop and its crew can step ashore to find food, supplies, marine services and entertainment within a compact waterfront area.
Located at 1583 Spinnaker Drive, Ventura Harbor Village fronts Ventura Harbor and serves as its primary dining, shopping and visitor district. For boaters planning a short stop or an overnight stay, understanding the available dockage before arriving can make the visit considerably easier.
Guest Docking for a Short Visit
Boaters who simply want to stop for lunch, shop or spend a few hours ashore can use complimentary guest docks for up to two hours at Ventura Harbor Village Marina, subject to availability. Visiting boaters should contact the Courtesy Patrol at (805) 218-4888 or VHF Channel 16 for guest-dock availability and instructions.
Paddlers also have an option at C Dock, located in front of Brophy Bros. Clam Bar & Restaurant. The inside tie provides complimentary space for paddlers visiting Village restaurants and shops. Operators of electric boats and other vessels can contact the Courtesy Patrol about complimentary day use.
Staying Overnight
Ventura Harbor Village Marina also accommodates recreational transient vessels overnight when space is available. The currently published transient rate is $1.50 per foot per day, and boaters must provide vessel documentation or registration, current vessel liability insurance and photo identification. Slip fees are based on the length of the slip or vessel, whichever is greater. The marina does not offer liveaboard slips.
Because space is not guaranteed, boaters should contact the Courtesy Patrol before arrival rather than assume a slip will be available.
Additional overnight moorage is available elsewhere in Ventura Harbor. The Ventura Port District directs transient boaters to Derecktor Ventura, Safe Harbor Ventura Isle and Ventura West Marina for additional options.
Boater Services Around the Harbor
A stop in Ventura Harbor also places visiting crews close to many of the services they may need during a coastal trip. The Port District lists fuel docks, markets, chandleries, boatyards, showers, laundry, pumpouts, Harbor Patrol, and Vessel Assist among the services available around Ventura Harbor.
Ventura Harbor Patrol monitors VHF channels 12 and 16 and can also be reached at (805) 642-8618. Vessel Assist/Channel Watch Marine operates in the harbor and provides services including towing, fuel delivery, battery jumps and assistance with soft groundings.
For a visiting boater, the combination means Ventura can serve as more than an overnight stopping point. It can also provide an opportunity to refuel, take care of routine needs and provision before continuing along the coast or heading toward the Channel Islands.
Food Within Walking Distance of the Docks
Once their boat is tied up, crews have an array of food choices within the Village itself.
The current dining directory includes around 15 restaurants, markets and food-and-drink businesses. Choices range from seafood and fish tacos to Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine, bakery items, casual American fare, wine tasting, ice cream, and other quick-stop food options.
Waterfront eateries include Andria’s Seafood Restaurant & Market, Brophy Bros. Clam Bar & Restaurant, Boatyard Pub Seafood & Spirits, Margarita Villa Mexican Restaurant, and The Greek Mediterranean Steak & Seafood, among others. The Village also has markets for boaters looking to pick up food, drinks or fresh seafood rather than sit down for a meal.
What to Do During a Longer Stop
A layover does not have to be limited to provisioning and eating.
Ventura Harbor Village has a walkable waterfront promenade along with boutiques, galleries and approximately 35 visitor-facing shops, galleries and restaurants. Live music and seasonal events are regularly held along the waterfront. Boat and kayak rentals, stand-up paddleboards, electric boats and harbor cruises provide additional options for crews spending more time in port.
The Village is also closely connected to Channel Islands National Park. Island Packers operates from Ventura Harbor, offering transportation to the islands as well as excursions for wildlife and whale watching. Plus, the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center is nearby.
For crews staying overnight, two hotels are located in the harbor area: Four Points by Sheraton Ventura Harbor and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ventura Harbor.
Planning the Stop
The biggest consideration for boaters planning to visit Ventura Harbor Village is dock availability. Complimentary guest docking and overnight transient space are both subject to availability, making advance contact with the Courtesy Patrol important.
Once secured, however, much of what a visiting crew needs is concentrated around the harbor. Restaurants and markets provide food and provisions, marine businesses support repairs and maintenance, and showers, laundry, fuel and pumpout facilities are available within the broader harbor. Entertainment, shopping, and waterfront activities give crews something to do when the day’s cruising is done.
For a boater traveling the Southern California coast, that makes Ventura Harbor Village useful for more than sightseeing. It can function as a lunch stop, an overnight destination, a place to provision, or a base before the next leg of a coastal or Channel Islands trip.
