2015 SCYA Midwinter Regatta dates announced
The Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA) has announced that the 2015 Midwinter Regatta will be held the weekend of Feb. 21 and 22. This marks the 86th year of the largest of its type regatta. Racing for one design and handicap rating classes is being hosted at yacht clubs from San Diego to Channel Island Marina. There are venues for radio controlled boats and Predicted Log Racing as well as locations for 8-foot dinghies up to 70-foot “sleds.” 2015 Regatta Chairman Kellie Fennessy has been working closely with all SCYA member clubs to be sure all racers have a place to race on the new weekend. Fennessy said: “We moved from the traditional Presidents holiday weekend partially to avoid a conflict with Valentine’s Day and also with so many families that have non-sailing events on the Presidents weekend. With venues spread so well, almost everyone can find a location to race their particular boat without having to travel too far.” Hollywood Yacht Club will again host a “Predicted Log-powered boat” event as part of the Midwinters, and coming onboard for the first time this year is Lake Gregory Yacht Club, which will have radio controlled boat racing (held May 16 to be sure...
