Basin Marine has expanded its hauling and service capabilities with the arrival of a new 75-ton Marine Travelift, marking a significant upgrade for one of Newport Beach’s longest-operating boatyards and bringing new benefits to local boaters with larger vessels.
The investment allows Basin Marine to safely haul, launch, and service boats up to 75 feet in length with beams up to 19 feet, increasing the range of vessels the yard can accommodate and reducing the need for owners to move their boats outside Newport Harbor for major work. For local boaters, that translates to greater convenience, improved access to skilled technicians, and the ability to keep maintenance and repair projects closer to home.
“This new lift is a game-changer for our customers,” said Derek New, vice president of Basin Marine. “We can now safely and efficiently handle boats up to 75 feet in length and 19 feet in beam, giving local boat owners access to top-tier maintenance right here in Newport Harbor.”
The 75-ton Marine Travelift enhances Basin Marine’s ability to perform more complex projects, including extensive refits, bottom work, and emergency repairs on larger yachts and select commercial vessels. In emergency situations, the added lifting capacity also means faster response times and fewer limitations when a vessel needs to be hauled quickly for assessment or repairs.
For boat owners, particularly those with mid-size to larger yachts, the expanded hauling capacity offers peace of mind. Routine haul-outs, inspections, and maintenance can now be handled by a familiar local yard with a long track record, rather than requiring coordination with distant facilities that may have longer wait times or limited availability.
The upgrade also strengthens Basin Marine’s position as a full-service boatyard capable of supporting a broader segment of Southern California’s boating community. The yard has served Newport Beach and surrounding harbors since 1939, offering mechanical, fiberglass, painting, and rigging services. Known for its skilled craftsmen and personalized approach, Basin Marine has built its reputation on quality workmanship and long-standing relationships with boat owners.
The new travel lift complements those services by allowing projects to stay in one location from haul-out through completion, improving efficiency for both customers and technicians. Larger vessels that previously exceeded the yard’s lifting limits can now be accommodated without compromising safety or service standards.
“This investment reflects our commitment to supporting the local marine industry and keeping our customers on the water,” New said.
Beyond individual boat owners, the expansion supports the broader Newport Harbor boating ecosystem. By increasing local capacity for hauling and repairs, Basin Marine helps reduce congestion at regional boatyards and keeps marine service dollars within the community. The upgrade also positions the yard to better serve visiting vessels that require work while in port, contributing to Newport Beach’s reputation as a premier boating destination.
As boating technology and vessel sizes continue to evolve, Basin Marine’s investment signals a forward-looking approach rooted in decades of experience. For a yard that has weathered generations of change along the waterfront, the addition of the 75-ton Marine Travelift represents both a practical upgrade and a reaffirmation of its role as a cornerstone of Newport Harbor’s working marina landscape.
Founded in 1939, Basin Marine remains family-owned and operated, providing repair, maintenance, and custom work for vessels of all sizes. With the new travel lift in service, the yard is poised to continue supporting Southern California boaters with expanded capabilities and the same personal touch that has defined its legacy for more than 85 years.
