Southern California anglers have long known Capt. Phil “Phire” Ornelas as one of Long Beach’s most respected sportfishing captains. Now, anglers have another reason to book a trip with him, as Ornelas has officially taken the helm as owner and captain of El Patron, the newest addition to the Long Beach Sportfishing fleet.
The new charter gives anglers another opportunity to fish with a captain whose name has become well known throughout the Long Beach fishing community while exploring some of Southern California’s premier offshore and island fisheries.
Measuring 50 feet long with a 16-foot beam, El Patron is equipped to accommodate a variety of fishing adventures, from local island excursions to offshore tuna trips during the summer and fall seasons.
Operating out of Long Beach Sportfishing, El Patron offers trips to several of Southern California’s most productive fishing destinations, including Catalina Island, San Clemente Island, Santa Barbara Island and San Nicolas Island. Each destination offers opportunities to target a wide range of popular game fish while enjoying some of California’s most scenic offshore waters.
During the warmer months, the operation also shifts its focus offshore, where anglers can pursue tuna during Southern California’s highly anticipated summer and fall tuna season.
