LA28 Seeks Volunteers for Olympic Sailing Events

With the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games drawing closer, US Sailing is encouraging members of the sailing community to apply for volunteer positions supporting the Olympic sailing competitions.

Games-time volunteers will play an important role in welcoming athletes, spectators and visitors during the Games. While many sailing enthusiasts may envision assisting on the water, most volunteer opportunities will be based at competition venues and other support locations throughout the Los Angeles area.

According to US Sailing, applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application, be proficient in spoken and written English, and commit to a minimum of 10 non-consecutive volunteer shifts during the Olympic Games. The online application takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and asks applicants about their skills, experience and interests.

Applications will be reviewed individually, and selections will not be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Those selected to move forward in the process will be invited to participate in assessments beginning in 2027, with volunteer role offers and training taking place on a rolling basis ahead of the Games.

US Sailing also encourages certified officials who have applied to serve as National Technical Officials (NTOs) to complete the Games-time volunteer application.

Applicants with sailing experience are encouraged to identify their background during the application process by using sailing-specific application codes. Separate codes are available for volunteers with experience in windsurfing and kiteboarding competitions in Long Beach, as well as dinghy, skiff and multihull racing in Los Angeles.

Olympic sailing competition is scheduled for July 16-28, 2028. The first week of racing, July 16-20, will feature the Formula Kite and iQFOiL windsurfing events in Long Beach. Competition will then shift to Los Angeles from July 23-28 for the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 one-person dinghy events, the mixed 470 class, the men’s and women’s 49er skiff classes and the mixed Nacra 17 multihull event.

Those interested in volunteering can apply through the LA28 volunteer portal at volunteer.la28.org.
