The Port of San Diego has launched a new online vessel scheduling platform that allows the public to track cargo ships and cruise vessels arriving at and departing from San Diego Bay.
Known as PortControl, the online dashboard provides real-time information about vessel activity at the Port’s two marine cargo terminals and two cruise ship terminals. Users can view which vessels are currently in port, see scheduled arrival and departure times, and access upcoming cruise ship schedules by cruise line.
Port officials say the new tool is designed to increase public awareness and transparency surrounding the daily maritime activity taking place throughout San Diego Bay.
The Port of San Diego serves as one of California’s busiest maritime gateways, supporting international trade, cruise tourism, and commercial shipping operations year-round. With vessels regularly moving through the harbor, PortControl offers residents, visitors, boaters, and waterfront businesses a new way to better understand what is happening on the bay.
In addition to providing public access to vessel schedules, the platform supports operational planning and communication among port users and stakeholders. The increased visibility can also help local event organizers, waterfront businesses, and recreational boaters remain aware of vessel traffic and avoid potential conflicts with marine events and activities occurring throughout the harbor.
The Port notes that PortControl contributes to safety and situational awareness by providing a clearer picture of vessel movements at San Diego’s cargo and cruise terminals. For those who frequently spend time on the water or along the waterfront, the platform offers an easy way to identify ships in the harbor and learn more about the commercial and passenger vessels visiting San Diego.
As the fourth-largest port in California, the Port of San Diego plays a significant role in tourism, international commerce, and the movement of goods and passengers. Port officials say the new tool helps highlight that activity while providing greater public access to information about the vessels that help drive the region’s maritime economy.
Because vessel operations can be affected by weather, port conditions, and other operational factors, the Port notes that all arrival and departure times displayed in PortControl are subject to change. The dashboard is updated in real time to reflect the most current information available.
The PortControl vessel tracking platform is available through the Port of San Diego’s website.
