Dana Point Harbor visitors have a new and improved way to access the waterfront with the official opening of the Golden Lantern entrance and the long-awaited parking structure. The additions mark another milestone in the harbor’s multi-year revitalization, offering enhanced access for shoppers, diners, boaters, and coastal explorers alike.
The new entrance at Golden Lantern provides direct access into the harbor area, where the modern parking structure now offers four hours of free parking to visitors. Harbor officials remind the public to follow all posted signs and proceed with caution as traffic patterns adjust to the new setup. All harbor businesses, shops, and restaurants remain fully accessible, with ample parking now available to accommodate summer crowds.
New Parking Structure Details
The recently completed parking structure near Golden Lantern provides convenient, covered parking for harbor guests, with four hours of free parking per vehicle. Designated stalls within the structure are reserved for registered marina tenants, and overnight parking is strictly limited to hotel guests at Dana Point Marina Inn and Catalina Express customers. Tailgating and rooftop gatherings are prohibited, and vehicles parked in restricted spaces are subject to tow.
Visitors heading out on Dana Wharf Sportfishing, whale watching excursions, or Catalina Express ferries are encouraged to check in with their charter company first before relocating their vehicles to the third level of the new structure.
For electric vehicle drivers, ChargePoint EV charging stations are scheduled to be operational on the first floor of the parking structure by August 1, 2025.
Dana Point Trolley Returns for Summer

Parking Options Across the Harbor
In addition to the new parking structure, visitors have several other parking options tailored to their activities:

- General Public Parking (Free): Free street parking can be found along Dana Point Harbor Drive east of Casitas Place, along Golden Lantern north of the harbor, on Dana Way near the Dana Point Yacht Club, and around Baby Beach and Cove Road.
- Additional Paid Parking: Puerto Place near Doheny State Beach offers hourly paid parking, while The Embarcadero provides flat-rate parking for $15 per vehicle, paid upon entry. These options are especially convenient for evening visits to the Wharf and surrounding businesses.
- Marina Parking (Permit Only): Designated, gated lots are available for marina tenants and boater guests. Day boater parking with direct access to the public boat launch is located off Embarcadero Place.
Overnight Parking Restrictions
Overnight parking remains strictly limited to guests of the Dana Point Marina Inn and Catalina Express passengers. Unauthorized vehicles parked overnight may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Visitors Reminded to Follow Safety Guidelines
Harbor officials urge all visitors to respect posted signage, observe traffic guidance, and cooperate with on-site parking attendants. As always, parking is subject to availability and at the visitor’s own risk.
The opening of the Golden Lantern entrance and parking structure represents a key part of the broader Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Project, aimed at modernizing and enhancing the harbor experience for residents, boaters, and tourists.
