In September of 1857, S.S. Central America sank after stopping in Havana, Cuba on a voyage north. During this time, S.S. Central America was carrying nearly 10 tons of gold prospected during California’s Gold Rush, which was mostly recovered during the 2014 expedition of the ship. At the 2018 Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Expo, the “Ship of Gold” treasure, which amounts to some $40 million, will be displayed. This will be the first public showing of the collection of historic gold and silver coins, unopened sacks of gold dust, and more. The California Convention Center is located at 100 S.
