NEWPORT BEACH —The Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club (BCYC) in Newport Beach will announce at their annual meeting that George Hampton will assume the role of Commodore for 2026, effective immediately.
A BCYC member since 2006, Hampton’s leadership journey began as Chair of the Junior Sailing Committee, where he strengthened and promoted the Club’s award-winning youth sailing program. Since that early role, he has continued to champion initiatives focused on enhancing member experience, expanding social and cruising programs, and reinforcing BCYC’s tradition of Corinthian spirit.
Hampton is a California-licensed trial and appellate attorney with Texas-based FBFK Law, representing clients in complex commercial, real estate, and intellectual property matters. He also serves as the Judge Advocate for the Special Forces Home For Christmas Fund, an organization dedicated to reuniting Marines with their families during the holidays.
George and his wife, Mara, are deeply rooted in BCYC’s community life. For the past several years, Mara has served as Co-Chair of the BCYC Gala, the Club’s signature fundraising event benefiting the Bahia Sail Racing Association, which provides financial support to community, club, and high school sailing programs as well as individual amateur sailors. Her efforts have earned her two of the Club’s most prestigious awards for outstanding contributions and philanthropy.
Their daughters, Abby and Kate, are avid sailors who grew up in BCYC’s Junior Sailing Program. Kate went on to serve as Junior Commodore, making George the first BCYC Commodore to follow in his daughter’s footsteps. The family is active on the water. George sails a Harbor 20 named Cool H2O, and they enjoy time aboard their powerboat, Mara Time.
As Commodore, Hampton looks forward to increasing member involvement and engagement, getting more members active on the water, and elevating the BCYC experience for everyone.
