SACRAMENTO — The California Department of Boating and Waterways — now in its last year as a department, in the wake of Gov. Jerry Brown’s government reorganization plan that demotes Cal Boating to a division of the California Department of Parks and Recreation effective in 2013 — is currently accepting applications for the Boating Infrastructure Grant program.
Marina operators in need of transient boat dock improvements have until Aug. 27 to apply for the grant, which is a national competitive program open to both publicly and privately owned marinas, with funding totaling $13 million.
Eligible projects include installation or upgrades of visitor tie-up facilities for recreational boats 26 feet or longer; and renovation or construction of visitor docks, restrooms, gangways and dockside utility hookups. The funds are also used to produce and distribute information and educational materials about the program and recreational boating.
In May, the California Boating and Waterways Commission approved a $945,000 boat launching facility grant to the city of Clearlake.
The grant will be used to lengthen one existing boarding float to Redbud Park’s Thompson Harbor Boat Launching Facility. Other improvements include two new boarding floats, dredging, parking lot improvements and security lighting for a portion of the...
