The future of clean energy took a major step forward at AltaSea in San Pedro with the completion of Echo Wave Power’s first U.S. wave energy pilot at the Port of Los Angeles. The innovative system, which uses floaters attached to existing marine structures, captures the natural motion of the ocean to generate renewable power — without touching the seabed. Built in partnership with local companies, the project marks a significant milestone in the global push for wave-powered energy solutions.
The official unveiling is set for September 9, 2025, at AltaSea, a nonprofit public/private ocean institute that serves as a hub for ocean innovation, science, and education. “This project shows what’s possible when technology, sustainability, and community come together,” AltaSea leaders noted.
AltaSea’s mission is to accelerate scientific collaboration, advance the emerging blue economy through business innovation and job creation, and inspire the next generation toward a sustainable, equitable future. Its vision includes harnessing the ocean to develop rapid solutions to pressing global challenges like climate change, energy supply, and food security, while preparing students for careers in science, technology, engineering, business, and ocean-related industries.
With Echo Wave Power’s technology now installed, AltaSea continues to reinforce its role as a leader in advancing clean energy innovations that can help sustain the ocean — and the planet — for generations to come.
