Huntington Beach — Huntington Harbour Yacht Club (HHYC) is closing out its 60th Anniversary year with a strong sense of pride and unity. Founded in 1964 by a small group of local boating enthusiasts, the Club has grown into a vibrant community anchored in friendship, seamanship, and a shared love of the water.
The 60th anniversary year was guided by Commodore Steve Parsons, whose leadership helped create some of the Club’s most memorable moments. Highlights included the Commodore’s Cruise to Alaska and the elegant Commodore’s Ball aboard the Queen Mary — events that celebrated HHYC’s long-standing traditions of adventure and camaraderie.
The Club also expanded its community outreach efforts. Working with Orange County Coast keepers, HHYC participated in the Living Shorelines Project, helping educate members and supporting the growth of baby oysters for future shoreline restoration. Parsons collaborated with Coastkeepers, Dee Wood, and the Harbor Commission to bring the initiative to the Club.
HHYC continued to play an active role in community education and local events, earning the Sweepstakes Award in the Huntington Harbour Christmas Boat Parade. The Club also hosted California Boating Safety Courses and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary classes for area residents. Youth involvement grew through the HHYC Sailing Foundation, while the Sea Belles — the Club’s women’s auxiliary — continued their commitment to supporting local charities.
“Nothing happens in a bubble — and our 60th Anniversary year had a spectacular Flag and Board of Directors who made this year truly special.”
— Commodore Steve Parsons
As HHYC looks ahead, members say the true strength of the Club lies in its people: those who share laughter on the docks, teamwork on the water, and friendships that endure well beyond the tides.
With 60 years behind them, HHYC now sets its course for the next six decades of smooth seas, steady winds, and continued community spirit.
