The Maritime Museum of San Diego, renowned for its historic fleet and engaging exhibits, is inviting volunteers to join its 2025 Docent Training Program, which runs from January 21 to March 25. Docents play a vital role in bringing maritime history to life through storytelling and guided tours of the museum’s vessels, including the Star of India, H.M.S. Surprise, and San Salvador.

Training sessions, held on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. aboard the Victorian-era ferryboat Berkeley, include lectures, readings, and walking tours. A mentorship program is also available for those unable to attend the formal classes. Participants must register in advance at sdmaritime.org/get-involved and be members of the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

For more information, contact Jim Cassidy, Docent Training Director, at [email protected] or (661) 406-0605. This is a unique opportunity for history enthusiasts to engage with the community and share the legacy of maritime exploration.
