The Corinthian Cup originally went by the name, The Moose Cup or The Moose McGillicuddy’s Cup. It was named after the sponsor, Moose McGillycuddy’s Pub and Café with the tagline: “race from Moose to Moose and back again.” The pubs were located in Redondo Beach and Marina del Rey. The name was changed to The Corinthian Cup in 2000 after it race went by different names then the pub closed in 1998.
1967
The year the first Governor’s Cup was held. Now considered the “Pathway for Champions,” the oldest junior match race in the world has had several sailors go on to compete in worldwide sailing races including America’s Cup.
