Bass fishing along the coast remained pretty good this week, with plenty of action on the lined live baits. We had some really nice 4–5″ sardines, and that definitely helped with the bass fishing. Plenty of fish were caught on plastics, hard baits, and surface lures as well. Water temps held between 68° and 70°. Sinker rigs produced more halibut along with some nice sand bass and sheephead.
At Catalina, the New San Mateo and the Dana Pride had more good calico bass fishing in the kelp along the back of the island. Yellowtail showed up in their counts again, mostly caught on flylined sardines. There were also plenty of bonito in the 3–5 lb range along those same kelp lines, from the V’s up the back toward Freddie’s Beach. The yellowtail were typical island grade, running 12–18 lbs.
Over at Clemente, the Fury had some nice mornings after making a little squid in the dark. They had shots at yellowtail, seabass, and halibut, and also found good calico bass fishing in the kelp.
