  1. Ventura County does not own Channel Islands Harbor. They only mismanage it.
It is Held In Public Trust. Again contract given to friends and family, no real visioning plan just “helping friends” take advantage of Oxnard.

Who is on this “Steering Committee”?

  2. It would be so nice to keep the wharf flavor instead of another want to be Mediterranean style. Also would be wonderful to expand the park for events, concerts, etc.

  3. Just rehab the place a bit, it doesn’t need to be high dollar, just clean and pleasant, cut the harbor tax from 20% down to about 5%, and the place will flourish once again by having vendors the people in the area can afford to patronize!

    1. Bottom line gifted to community specifically states Public Amenity gifted for public, by Bard Family and others, (documented) only for that purpose stated so in The Greenland Powell Book.

The County manages the Fisherman’s Wharf and CI Marinas/Harbor only By HOLDING IN PUBLIC TRUST (documented) all at Ventura County, and available to the public.

  4. Channel Islands is a wonderful harbor. Just rehab the current facilities, reduce the harbor tax (rent) to get them occupied. Do not allow development to change the use from boating and visitors. Residential development will increase automobile traffic that cannot be mitigated and be detrimental to the harbor and surrounding neighbors

  5. As a 35 year SilverStrand resident I agree with all of the above.  I wanted to rent some space in the past but could not as the windows did not work and entry to the door had dangerous missing decking. There was never any maintenance over the years.  I think a quick survey could conclude what can be repaired and want must be taken down and that will give a starting point to potentially bring it back to life to even be better as we enjoyed it years ago.  The landscape is a bit overgrown and not inviting and needs attention also.  Small outdoor open movie venues are coming back and believe possible for this idea in the current space. I believe to also give a potential for some good local outdoor live music with good food and beverage options. Simply this will bring in opportunities to pay for itself quickly in many ways and be in scale with our neighborhood and supported by all.

  6. There’s no way on earth Fisherman’s Wharf will survive as a primarily retail based destination. The amount of capital necessary to even make the site reasonably attractive to potential credit-worthy retailers isn’t feasible. Couple that with an overall retail environment that will be forever changed by this pandemic, and rents will never support it as a private endeavor. Unless the City, County, and/or Coastal Commission subsidize it, which will never happen, it cannot go forward as currently configured.

    1. Let’s make CI Harbor viable again. We should first put in aquarium with local fish and animals like sea lions there. Restaurants on both sides of the harbor with water taxis shuttling ppl across to different places. No residential. Shops, retail, waterfront restaurants best for the harbor.
