55 Years of Dana Point’s Festival of Whales

For 55 years, the Festival of Whales has marked the return of migrating gray whales to the waters off Dana Point, celebrating the city’s deep connection to the ocean and its maritime roots. What began as a way to honor the annual migration has grown into one of Southern California’s most beloved coastal traditions, bringing together locals, visitors, boaters, and ocean enthusiasts for a weekend dedicated to marine life, community, and waterfront fun.

This photo spread captures the spirit of the 55th annual Festival of Whales, which was held March 6 through 8, 2026, and offered a visual look at everything the weekend had to offer. From harbor views and ocean-inspired festivities to family-friendly activities and moments along the water, these images reflect both the energy of the event and the legacy behind it.
