When asked what qualities or perspectives the Sea Tow Foundation is seeking in new Boating Safety Advisory Council members — and how those voices contribute to shaping future safety initiatives — Keaveny Hewitt, a representative from the Foundation’s public relations firm, emphasized the value of diverse industry insight. “We’re looking for council members from all areas of the boating industry — whether that’s manufacturing, retail, media, or trade associations,” Hewitt explained. “Ideal candidates are decision-makers or influencers within their organizations.” According to Hewitt, these council members play a vital role in advancing boating safety efforts nationwide, including serving as judges for the annual National Boating Safety Awards, which highlight companies making a visible and impactful commitment to safety across the industry.

Applications are open now through May 15, 2025, with selected candidates to be notified in mid-June. Those appointed will begin their two-year terms with a kickoff meeting in September 2025. Individuals working in the boating or marine industry who are passionate about promoting safe and responsible boating are encouraged to apply. Applications can be submitted directly through the Sea Tow Foundation’s website.

Established as a nonprofit in 2007 by Sea Tow Services International, the Sea Tow Foundation is dedicated to promoting boating safety nationwide. The organization is best known for programs like the Life Jacket Loaner Program, which provides free, easy access to life jackets at marinas and launch ramps across the U.S., and for its role in delivering safety education, resources, and campaigns tailored for recreational boaters.

The Boating Safety Advisory Council is a critical component of the Foundation’s mission. Its members help identify key areas for education, review safety trends, and serve as ambassadors for outreach efforts. Council members are selected for their leadership, expertise, and commitment to the boating community.

Disclaimer:
It’s important for readers to note the distinction between Sea Tow Services International and the Sea Tow Foundation. While the Sea Tow Foundation was originally established by the for-profit company Sea Tow Services International, the Foundation is a completely separate, independent nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status. The shared use of “international” and leadership roles—such as the board chair also serving as president of both entities—can understandably cause some confusion, but the Foundation operates independently and focuses solely on its nonprofit mission.
