With California’s boating season in full swing and state boater card requirements now in effect, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is encouraging recreational boaters to sharpen their skills by attending its upcoming Boat America course in Oxnard.

Designed for both new and experienced boaters, the one-day course meets National Boating Education Standards and qualifies participants to obtain a California Boater Card, which is required for anyone operating a motorized vessel on California waters.

Taught by experienced Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors, the course covers seven core boating topics, including boating laws and regulations, required safety equipment, navigation, safe vessel operation, emergency procedures, trailering and practical boating tips. The curriculum is designed to provide boaters with the knowledge needed to safely enjoy time on the water while reducing the risk of accidents and emergencies.

Whether you’re preparing for your first season at the helm, purchasing a new boat or simply looking to refresh your boating knowledge, the course offers a comprehensive overview of recreational boating safety.
