SAN DIEGO — A 40-year-old man was arrested and booked into county jail following a hit-and-run boating crash involving the USS Midway Museum on Friday, July 18, according to the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department.
The incident occurred around 11:54 a.m. when a 65-foot motor vessel, Offshore Lifestyle, collided head-on with the port side of the historic USS Midway, which is permanently docked as a museum along the downtown San Diego waterfront.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows the vessel making direct impact with the hull of the Midway before fleeing the scene. Harbor Police located the vessel shortly afterward near the Coronado Ferry Landing in San Diego Bay.
Officers made contact with all seven individuals onboard and identified Frank D’Anna as the operator of the vessel. D’Anna was arrested and booked on three charges under the California Harbors and Navigation Code: Boating Under the Influence (Section 655(b)), Hit and Run (Section 656.1), and Operating a Vessel with a Blood Alcohol Content Over 0.08 (Section 655(c)).
No injuries were reported from either the Offshore Lifestyle or the Midway. The motor vessel was impounded as part of the ongoing investigation, which remains active.
The Port of San Diego Harbor Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
