Southern California boaters are being invited to take part in a survey that could lead to receiving a free marine composting toilet as part of an effort to promote cleaner waterways and sustainable boating practices.
The initiative, led by The Bay Foundation and supported by funding from the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is aimed at boat owners who cruise in Southern California and are interested in upgrading or installing a marine sanitation system.
Participants are asked to complete a short survey indicating their interest in converting an existing holding tank to a marine composting toilet or installing one on a vessel without a marine sanitation device. Selected participants may receive the system at no cost in exchange for providing feedback and sharing their experience with the installation and use of the equipment.
Marine composting toilets are self-contained systems designed to reduce maintenance and eliminate the risk of accidental sewage discharge into the water, aligning with broader efforts to protect coastal ecosystems.
Organizers are encouraging boaters to share the opportunity with others in the Southern California boating community who may be interested in participating.
