DANA POINT — After nearly five decades as a cherished fixture in Dana Point Harbor, Harpoon Henry’s has announced it will close its doors on January 28, 2025. Founder Robert Mardian, Jr. informed employees of the decision shortly after Thanksgiving, marking the end of an era for the iconic waterfront restaurant.

Since its establishment in 1975, Harpoon Henry’s has been a favorite spot along the boardwalk, known for its warm service, coastal ambiance, and timeless menu offerings. Its signature patio expansion during the pandemic, made possible through collaboration with Dana Point Harbor Partners, became a standout feature for waterfront dining in the harbor.

“We know how much this establishment means to the community, and we encourage everyone to come celebrate the final season with the Harpoon Henry’s team,” said Bryon Ward of Dana Point Harbor Partners. “We’ve been honored to partner with them and will miss their presence along the boardwalk.”

The closure of Harpoon Henry’s coincides with plans for the next phase of the harbor’s revitalization. Scheduled to begin mid-summer 2025, Phase 3 will bring transformative changes, including seven architecturally distinctive buildings, expanded indoor-outdoor venues, and over 50 new shops and restaurants. The revitalization aims to blend contemporary amenities with the harbor’s timeless charm, offering communal spaces with fire pits, public art installations, and areas designed for live music and events.

Despite the ongoing construction, Dana Point Harbor Partners remain committed to supporting existing businesses and ensuring minimal disruption. Measures such as free shuttles, additional signage, and public programming are in place to maintain accessibility and keep the harbor vibrant during the transformation.

“It is bittersweet to see a fan favorite choose to close early as we prepare for an improved harbor experience, but we respect the owners’ decision to balance current and future business needs,” Ward noted. Discussions are ongoing with Harpoon Henry’s and its sister restaurant, Wind & Sea, about potential long-term locations within the revitalized harbor. Updates are expected in the coming months.

As the final chapter approaches, now is the time to enjoy Harpoon Henry’s full menu while soaking in the festive holiday lights at Dana Point Harbor, illuminated nightly through January 12, 2025. Harpoon Henry’s sister restaurant, Wind & Sea, will remain open and offer displaced employees opportunities to transition to its team.
