SAN DIEGO – Anglers – both experts and those new to the fishing scene – can enjoy a day of all things sportfishing at the Port of San Diego’s 35th annual Day at the Docks, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 13. The free event boasts the latest in fishing gear, along with seminars and activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Held at the San Diego Sportfishing Landings in Point Loma, the day signifies the official start of Southern California’s spring saltwater fishing season. Highlights include boat rides on San Diego Bay; Kids’ Fishing Adventures areas stocked with fish where children ages 4 to 2 can reel in a catch with expert help, and fishing seminars.
Guests can tour the San Diego sportfishing fleet, where they can chat with boat captains and jump aboard various vessels. Chefs will be at the festival, demonstrating how to best prepare and cook local catches at the Catch, Prep and Cook Center where presentations will be held throughout the day.
“The day is a family event and we encourage fishermen and non yet fishing people to come out and enjoy the day,” said Day at the Docks show producer Catherine Miller.
Seeker Rods and Avet Reels will sponsor a casting contest for everyone at H&M Landing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Live entertainment, food vendors, raffles and other contests are scheduled during the free event.
Free parking and free round-trip shuttle service to and from the festival is offered from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
