ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor
Dec. 12 • 2:27 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers removed a 15-foot section of a tree from the harbor entrance.

Dec. 12 • 11:05 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted a boater in entering the harbor, due to weather. The boater was unable to start his engine. Officers assisted him in setting anchor in the East Anchorage.

Newport Harbor
Dec. 8 • 10:50 p.m
. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a boat in the ferry lane, requiring a tow. The vessel was towed to Larson’s Shipyard.

Dec. 9 • 1:55 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 36-foot powerboat taking on water, with about 2 feet standing inside the vessel. A boat pump was deployed and Vessel Assist was contacted. Vessel Assist towed the boat to a nearby boatyard for service.

Dec. 9 • 1:58 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 60-foot powerboat illegally secured at a marina dock near a waterfront restaurant. According to the informant, the boat’s owner is using it as a charter vessel, with people reportedly boarding and disembarking frequently, at unauthorized locations. The vessel operator was advised, and the vessel was moved.

Dec. 9 • 3:24 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 22-foot cuddy cabin powerboat adrift at the harbor entrance with two people aboard. Vessel Assist was contacted.

Dec. 9 • 4 p.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 33-foot powerboat going aground beneath the Lido Isle bridge. Officers pushed the vessel off the pylon with a boat hook.

Dec. 12 • 8:53 a.m. Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers spotted an unoccupied  yellow kayak floating down the channel near the Balboa bridge. The kayak was taken to the harbor office.

Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Dec. 9 • 9:39 a.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a 24-foot powerboat sinking, approximately two-thirds underwater, near the 17100 block of Blue Water. Huntington Beach Fire Department personnel surrounded the boat with an oil-absorbing boom as a salvage operation was awaited.

VENTURA COUNTY

Ventura Harbor
Nov. 26 • 10:40 a.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers observed a disabled vessel near the breakwater. They took the vessel in tow and released it at the launch ramp.

Nov. 29 • 4:05 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a dog in distress off the breakwater. A Labrador retriever had reportedly been in the water chasing birds for nearly an hour. Officers responded, took the dog aboard the patrol boat and transported it to the beach for its owner. The dog was unharmed.

Nov. 30 • 12:55 a.m. A Ventura Isle Marina tenant reported an alarm sounding aboard a nearby vessel. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded, were able to gain entry to the vessel and turned off an onboard security alarm.

Dec. 3 • 8:10 a.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers observed a petroleum sheen on the water, flowing from the Arundell Barranca. Officers deployed four oil-absorbing booms and notified the Ventura County Watershed Protection District.

Dec. 4 • 4:55 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers monitored a mayday call from a disabled vessel that reported a wrapped propeller, on the outside of the breakwater. When officers arrived on the scene, the 14-foot vessel had capsized and was floating bow-up. The boat’s operator was on the breakwater. Officers picked up the boater on the inside of the breakwater and then took the vessel in tow to the launch ramp, where it was dewatered.

Dec. 8 • 5:25 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers observed several hoop nets set inside of the breakwater, in violation of local harbor ordinances. Officers issued the violator a citation for the infraction.

Dec. 9 • 10:28 a.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a report of a kayaker in need of assistance at the harbor entrance. Officers responded, took the operator and his kayak aboard the patrol boat and transported him into the Sand Trap, where he was able to get back aboard his kayak.

Dec. 9 • 3:45 p.m. Ventura Harbor Patrol officers received a request from a dive boat operator with a disabled engine for assistance maneuvering the vessel into its slip. Officers pushed the side of the vessel to guide it against the dock.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Santa Barbara Harbor
Nov. 29 • 9:10 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a homeless couple arguing and possibly fighting under the yacht club structure. Officers contacted the couple and asked them to remove their belongings from under the club structure. They left the area with a warning.

Dec. 6 • 1:55 p.m. Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a call for medical attention at Marina 4. The subject reportedly complained of chest pain and paralysis. The patient was placed on high-flow oxygen and was transported to a local hospital.

Dec. 7 • 10:50 p.m.
A harbor user came to the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol office to report that someone had slashed his tires in the Main Harbor parking lot. Officers responded and documented the incident.

Dec. 9 • 1:10 a.m.
Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a male fall victim with a head injury, at the end of Marina 4. Witnesses stated the man fell down a flight of stairs on a 65-foot vessel and had struck his head on the lower door latch located at the bottom of the stairs. The subject had lost consciousness. Harbor Patrol took C-spine precautions, placed him on a backboard and transported him to a local hospital.
