MARINA DEL REY — The 40th annual Old Fashioned Day in the Park will once again take over Burton Chace Park and a portion of Marina del Rey Harbor as classic cars and boats take center stage at the event sponsored by the Classic Yacht Association (CYA) and the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors.
Old Fashioned Day in the Park will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., July 24 at Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.
The public will get a glimpse of the past as they board the vintage yachts dating back to the 1920s as well as view a wide array of restored vintage automobiles – woodies, Model A’s, T-Birds and more. There will also be vintage steam-powered farm equipment, classic model ships, Marina del Rey Historical Society displays and harbor tours.
The Los Angeles Art Deco Society will also be joining the affair.
Restored yachts built by Stephens Bros., Ed Monk Sr., Fellows and Stewart, Chris Craft, Dawn, Elco and more will be open for boarding. One boat of interest will be Lady Isabelle, a restored 30-foot 1930 launch vessel that was one of the “Little Ships of Dunkirk” conscripted to assist the British troops in the WWII critical evacuation of Dunkirk.
“We are delighted to be such an established part of Marina del Rey history. We love to share our passion for these American treasures,” said Christine Rohde, former commodore of the International Association, and coordinator of the event
The restored 1929 47-foot yacht Athena built by Stephens Bros., will be on display, as will Rohde’s 1950 Chris Craft Catalina, Sparkle, which calls Marina del Rey home.
