Parade of Lights Dinner and Boat Parade Viewing

Enjoy front-row seats to the holiday festivities with the Parade of Lights Dinner hosted by the Maritime Museum of San Diego. This special event takes place aboard the historic 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley, where guests can choose to join the fun on Sunday, December 8 or Sunday, December 15, 2024. Watch as the 54th Annual Parade of Lights glides past the museum’s fleet at Star of India Wharf. The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade returns for its 116th year, featuring beautifully decorated yachts, boats, kayaks, and canoes gliding along Newport Harbor from December 18 through 22, 2024. The parade begins each evening at 6:30 p.m. near the Tip of Lido Isle and follows its celebrated route through the harbor. Marina Park, a 10.5-acre community park with 177 parking spaces, a nautical-themed playground, and picnic areas, serves as the largest public viewing area along the route and provides an ideal spot for families to enjoy the spectacle.
For those interested in participating, boat owners can register to join the parade, while waterfront homes can enter the Ring of Lights decorating competition. Both participants receive commemorative items and are eligible for awards.

Villa Park Dry Land Boat Parade 2024

The annual Villa Park Dry Land Boat Parade returns on December 15, transforming Villa Park’s streets into an “asphalt harbor” where over 50 festively decorated vessels make their way to the Villa Park Town Center. This unique parade kicks off at 5:00 p.m., bringing holiday cheer as boats decked out with lights and creative decorations cruise through the neighborhood. The theme for this year’s event is yet to be announced, adding an element of surprise to the beloved tradition.
Spectators can line up along the route or set up chairs at key viewing spots, such as Lemon Street, where a wide walking trail provides a perfect vantage point. Along the way, neighborhood parties pop up, and kids eagerly await candy tossed from the “boats,” adding to the festive atmosphere. And, in keeping with the holiday spirit, proceeds from retail vendor sales at the event will benefit the Villa Park Community Services Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
The parade culminates at the Villa Park Town Center, where the Villa Park High School marching band greets the crowd, and award trophies are presented for categories like Best Overall, Most Original, Most Joyful, Best Youth Group (18 and younger), and Best Use of Lights.
