Water temps are back in the 64°–66° range after dropping to 59° this week with some wind.

But that didn’t slow things down for long, as the 1/2-day anglers continued to see good bass fishing throughout the week. We fished really nice anchovy, which led to some great bass action. Surface setups with sliders produced nice calico bass, while sinker setups using reverse dropper loops brought in quality sand bass. There were also some standout sheephead again this week, along with a couple of nice halibut, including one at 23 pounds caught on an anchovy. There was also good action on rubber lures and hard baits.

Rockfish out deep on the 14 Mile Bank were excellent this week. We knew it would bite with the right conditions, and those lined up for a few days. There were solid limits of bank rockfish and chilipeppers, with a few big bocaccio mixed in. Double dropper loops with anchovies got bit well, and jig anglers fishing 250–300 gram jigs in chrome, blue and pink, and lime colors also had excellent results.

We had our first boat to Catalina this week, where they found good bonito action along the east end. Not too far up the back, there was also good calico bass fishing in the kelp. There was no sign of yellowtail during their trip, but the water conditions were very favorable.

At San Clemente Island, the Fury had some yellowtail in their count this week, with smaller fish up to 12 pounds. Rockfish fishing has been good there, but the real standout has been the fishing along the kelp. Calico bass fishing near the surface has been excellent, while sinker setups have been producing whitefish and sheephead, along with some pockets of bonito.
