NEWPORT BEACH — Offering free rides to locals and visitors all summer long, the beloved Balboa Peninsula Trolley has returned to Newport Beach. The trolley resumed its weekend and holiday service back on May 24, providing beachgoers and peninsula explorers a fun and stress-free way to travel.
The trolley operates Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with additional service on major holidays, including Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (September 1). With 22 designated stops along the route, the trolley connects key points throughout the peninsula, including the Balboa Pier and Fun Zone area. Trolleys are scheduled to arrive roughly every 15 minutes, though timing may vary slightly with traffic.
Designed with coastal adventures in mind, the trolley can accommodate beach gear, bicycles, and surfboards under six feet in length, making it a convenient choice for families and solo travelers alike. Those coming from outside the area can take advantage of free parking at the City’s Avon Street municipal lot, located at the intersection of Tustin Avenue and Avon Street in Mariners’ Mile along Pacific Coast Highway.
Operated by the City of Newport Beach and supported by Measure M2 funds from the Orange County Transportation Authority, the service is part of an ongoing effort to improve local transit and ease congestion along the busy waterfront corridor.
