SAN DIEGO — Hugo Carver, a prominent figure in San Diego’s maritime industry, died on June 1, his family and associates confirmed. He was 72.
Carver, who was the second half of the yacht building company Knight & Carver, lost an 18-month battle with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

IIRC, this is Hugo Carver I knew in high school(NHHS). I lived in Cdm and he in Gillette House at end of Balboa Peninsula. I would hail him from China Cove and he would come across channel in an outboard motor boat, whence we’d motor out to entrance channel between jetties and ride a few waves…family owned auto dealership in Newpoprt?
We lost contact after graduation, but I always savored fond memories of our youth.
