Balboa Sail & Power Squadron proudly presents the Ready, Set, Wear It! event on May 19 to promote National Safe Boating Week, taking place during May 19-25, which coincides with the official launch of the 2018 Safe Boating Campaign.
U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in four out of every five recreational boating fatalities in 2016, and that 83 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets.
With more comfortable and lightweight options for life vests available on the market today and inflatable jackets that allow for mobility when partaking in recreational activities, this event brings awareness to the hazards of boating without a life vest.
