SAN DIEGO—San Diego County has finally been caught within California’s wide net of forced closures to mitigate the second surge in Covid-19 cases. The Maritime Museum of San Diego announced a second temporary closure, July 7, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The museum, which originally closed its doors on March 16 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, had re-opened on July 1.
“The museum is complying with state and local governance and guidelines and anticipates reopening Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the approval of regional authorities,” museum staff said in a released statement. “Museum management will continue to monitor the Covid-19 case data dashboards adjusting operations and safety and health protocols as needed to fight coronavirus.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an order just before the Fourth of July holiday weekend, shutting down several industries in 19 counties. The order was issued as California was experiencing a second surge of Covid-19 cases. San Diego County was not on Newsom’s initial list. Newsome, however, added San Diego County to his order earlier this week.
