SANTA BARBARA — The City of Santa Barbara has unveiled two expanded transportation services aimed at making downtown travel easier and more sustainable this summer.
The State Street Loop pilot program operates Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. The free six-month shuttle features a fleet of three electric golf carts, including one ADA-accessible vehicle, serving 11 marked stops between the Dolphin Fountain at Stearns Wharf and Victoria Street. Each cart holds up to five passengers and runs on a continuous loop to assist locals and visitors in reaching key downtown destinations.
The pilot is a partnership between the City of Santa Barbara, Friends of State Street, and Sweep Inc., and aims to promote a more accessible and pedestrian-friendly State Street experience through November 2025.
In addition, the MTD Downtown-Waterfront Shuttle has returned and offers 50-cent one-way rides between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday. The electric shuttle connects 39 stops throughout downtown, including Chapala and Anacapa Streets, the Santa Barbara Zoo, the Harbor, Cabrillo Boulevard, and the Amtrak station. The service will run through Labor Day, September 1.
Together, these services provide reliable, eco-friendly alternatives for navigating Santa Barbara’s downtown and waterfront areas. For more information, visit the State Street Loop website at santabarbaraca.gov or the MTD Shuttle site at sbmtd.gov.
