SB 1 and Boaters: What you need to know about the gas tax hike

California Gas Tax Hike
STATEWIDE — Are you aboard your boat and navigating away from California yet? If not you might want to consider doing so, as the cost of living in the state will be increasing yet again as Gov. Jerry Brown and California legislators backed a 12-cent gasoline tax hike in April. Guess what boaters – all of you will be hit with this tax no different than anyone else fueling up on the road. Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) was approved by state legislators and quickly signed into law by Brown with the caveat the additional revenue was necessary to rescue California’s aging infrastructure. If successful, the gas tax hike would raise $5.2 billion in transportation revenues and redirect the funds maintaining local roads, state highways and trade corridors. Brown and state legislators argued SB 1 would specifically help fund the rebuilding of state highways and roads. Boaters, of course, do not use the highway, meaning there wouldn’t be any incentive to pay a tax hike where the only beneficiaries were benefiting vehicle owners. “The increased tax will apply to all gasoline purchases regardless it’s at a station or trailer or fuel dock,” former Marina Recreation Association president Kevin Ketchum told The Log. 1. Wow the Commies in Sacramento are just doing their best to get everyone to leave the state.
Just wait to see how high the taxes will be When they need 400 Billion to insure all the Illegals via single payer.
The state current budget is $180 Billion so the will need to Raise Taxes four fold to implement the single payer.
How does $15.00 per gallon gas and a 35% sales tax sound?

  2. If this goes through well I have been thinking about moving to Baja so this will make the move a done thing. boaters should all move there boats to Mexico.
see how they like our not spending any money in Calif.

    1. Gov. Brown already signed SB-1 back in late April but a grassroots campaign began last month to try and repeal this new tax hike via a three-phase strategy:
Phase 1 – Recall state senators who supported the bill, starting with Sen. Josh Newman (D-Fullerton). His decisive vote helped give Democrats the super-majority needed to pass SB-1. Registered voters in his 29th District (which includes parts of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Orange counties) may sign the recall petition now. Phase 2 – Give Sacramento 30 days to rescind the car and gas tax or file additional Recall Initiatives against more state senators.
Phase 3 – Pass a state-wide ballot initiative in 2018 to fix roads without a tax hike and impose accountability on transportation funds.

  3. This is insane!! There was a bill passed years ago to improve the roads, and the the money went elsewhere while the roads were neglected. THEN… They say the roads are in desperate need of repairs so they can justify the worst taxes hike in the nation? Wake up people, I hope this is what you wanted in your vote.

  4. The b*****ds strangle the Golden Goose, and then tax the edible remains. Soon everything will rot, not just the infrastructure.

  5. People are leaving California and it’s all because of JERRY MOONBEAM BROWN. He has ruined this state, first it was Companies leaving and now it’s the people leaving because of the stupid ass way he is running this State, he is taxing the people to death, they have no choice but to go to greener pastures. I know of some people that have left, I have a good friend that moved to Idaho and he loves it. I will be going there to see him and check Idaho out for myself. Like my good friend we both live on a small penson and AS. Our money is fixed and we don’t get raises so we can’t live with all of these taxes . So me and my wife and my boat might be moving to Idaho.
