South Coast Fish Report

Provided by Dana Wharf Sportfishing

We had another solid week of local action.  We fished some nice and warm water 71°-73°, and with that very steady movement.

1/2 day anglers saw really good sand bass action over the hard bottom.  Rubber lures and reverse dropper loops were perfect for that scenario.  Along with the bass, there continued to be some halibut in the mix from just over legal keepers to some standout 15lb fish.

Calico bass fishing in the kelp has continued to be highly dependent on current conditions.  Our live bait has been some really nice anchovies, and the flyline fishing has been enjoyable.

Rubber lures and hard baits, such as Lucky Crafts, Rapala XRaps, and SP Minnows, have also been highly effective.   The A-rigs have been lights out good too, super fun every cast on the calico bass.

A few days ago, we had some nice bonito in the mix as well, biting the live baits and small metal jigs like the snipers and similar style lures.

Twilight trips have been having the same mixed bass fishing with some nice sheephead and a halibut or two as well.

The Fury has had some excellent fishing at Clemente and on the offshore banks.  Good show on the yellows yesterday on an overnight trip; they had 22 fish ranging from 8 to 20 lbs. Sounds super fun. The calico bass fishing at Clemente has been great too this week on the live bait, hard baits, and surface iron.   And the anglers wanting to fish near the bottom are catching plenty of whitefish and sheephead on the squid.

Fury also had some bluefin in their counts on a couple 2 2-day trips this week as well. Live bait and a few fish in the jigs, there too.
