SAN DIEGO — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an 11-year-old child after their sailboat capsized in San Diego Bay on Wednesday afternoon.
Aboard a 26-foot Trailerable Aids-to-Navigation Boat (TANB), a Coast Guard Aids-to-Navigation Team (ANT) responded to a call for help heard by an Auxiliarist on patrol. The crew deployed a life ring, safely brought the child aboard, and secured the sinking vessel.
The sailboat was towed to a nearby pier on Shelter Island, where the crew began dewatering efforts. The child’s father, sailing nearby in a separate vessel, met them at the pier.
No injuries or medical issues were reported.
