Founded in 2001 in Austin, Texas, SailTime began as a revolutionary concept: a fractional boat club designed to make sailing accessible to more people. Over the years, it’s grown into the largest fractional boat club in the world, boasting over 35 bases across two continents and a fleet of more than 115 boats. SailTime Orange County is a proud part of this expansive network, bringing the company’s innovative vision to Southern California.

Each SailTime base is independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs who are licensed by SailTime Group, LLC. These dedicated base owners ensure world-class service, managing all maintenance and operational needs so members can focus on enjoying their time on the water. The Orange County base is no exception, offering a seamless experience for its members.

SailTime Orange County provides a variety of programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of the sailing community:

  1. Membership Program

At the heart of SailTime is its boat membership program, a pioneering approach that allows members to enjoy regular access to luxury sailboats without the hassle of ownership. Members choose a plan based on the number of sailing days they’d like each month, with flexible scheduling that suits their lifestyle. Each member is guaranteed a set number of sail times and can book additional slots based on availability.

“There are many people out there that want to buy a boat, but after some research they find that the slip fees in Newport Beach are so expensive, and maintaining a boat is such a hassle, that they get discouraged,” said Chris Jester of SailTime Orange County, in an email to The Log. “Then after a little more research they find our sailing school, the Newport Beach Sailing School (www.NewportBeachSail.com) and they learn the correct way to sail. Then, they learn about SailTime and the amazing value sailors receive. They lease a nice new sailing yacht from SailTime that costs them about half the cost of the slip fee alone. So, even if they were given a free boat, SailTime is still way less expensive, because with SailTime, they don’t have to worry about slip fees, insurance or maintenance. Everything is included in the annual lease.”

The membership program is ideal for those who love the water but don’t want the financial or time commitment of owning a boat. With access to a fleet of Jeanneau and Beneteau sailboats, members enjoy high-quality vessels equipped with modern amenities and cutting-edge technology.

When asked how SailTime’s partnership with Jeanneau and Beneteau enhances the sailing experience for members in terms of quality, performance, and amenities, Jester highlighted that the standout advantage lies in their fleet of new, meticulously maintained Beneteau, Jeanneau, and Lagoon yachts. He emphasized that newer boats not only deliver superior sailing performance but are also more environmentally friendly.

  1. Ownership and Yacht Management Program

For those looking to own a boat, SailTime offers an Ownership and Yacht Management Program. Boat owners can place their vessel in the SailTime fleet, allowing them to offset ownership costs through membership fees. SailTime takes care of all maintenance, insurance, and operational responsibilities, ensuring the boat remains in pristine condition.

This program not only provides owners with personal access to their boat but also allows them to benefit from the income generated by its use in the membership program. It’s a win-win for individuals who want to own a boat but avoid the usual headaches of maintenance and management.

  1. SailTime University

SailTime Orange County is more than just a boat club; it’s also a hub for education. Through SailTime University, the company offers professional sailing instruction certified by the American Sailing Association (ASA). With 30 schools across the network, SailTime has established itself as a leader in sailing education, training hundreds of students each year to become confident, capable sailors.

The program caters to all skill levels, from beginners learning the basics to advanced sailors seeking to refine their techniques. Courses cover essential topics like navigation, docking, and safety, ensuring students are well-prepared for any situation on the water.

According to Jester, some of the most popular courses offered at SailTime University include ASA 101: Basic Keelboat, ASA 103: Basic Coastal Cruising, and ASA 104: Bareboat Cruising. These courses are designed to equip new sailors with the skills and confidence needed for safe and enjoyable experiences on the water. Upon completing these three courses, SailTime members are well-prepared to navigate their boats safely to destinations like Catalina Island.

SailTime Orange County plays a vital role in fostering a vibrant sailing culture in the region. By making sailing more accessible and affordable, it lowers the barriers to entry for newcomers while providing seasoned sailors with a hassle-free way to enjoy their passion. Its innovative programs align perfectly with the needs of a modern, busy population that values flexibility and convenience.

In addition to its member-focused approach, SailTime contributes to the sustainability of the marine environment by emphasizing shared use. Fractional boating reduces the overall number of vessels on the water, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing enjoyment for members. The focus on modern, fuel-efficient vessels further underscores their commitment to eco-friendly practices.

The SailTime Orange County fleet includes luxurious Jeanneau and Beneteau sailboats, known for their sleek designs, high performance, and state-of-the-art amenities. Members enjoy access to boats that are meticulously maintained, ensuring a top-notch experience every time they step aboard. These vessels range in size and capabilities, catering to different preferences and sailing goals, whether it’s a leisurely day cruise or an overnight adventure.

SailTime’s impact extends far beyond Orange County. As part of a global network, members can explore waters across North America and beyond, leveraging reciprocal benefits at other SailTime bases. This expansive reach offers members unparalleled opportunities to sail in diverse locations without the complexities of transporting their own boat.

Additionally, SailTime’s PowerTime program expands its offerings to include powerboats, catering to a broader audience and providing even more ways to enjoy time on the water.

With a focus on innovation and growth, SailTime continues to evolve. The company is constantly exploring new products, locations, and services to meet the changing needs of its members. From introducing advanced training techniques to expanding its fleet, SailTime remains at the forefront of the fractional boating industry.

SailTime Orange County embodies the best of what the sailing lifestyle has to offer. By combining accessibility, education, and world-class service, it’s reshaping the way people think about boating. Whether you’re looking to learn, sail, or own, SailTime offers a pathway to make your dreams a reality — all while enjoying the beauty and serenity of the open water.
